Hi Ladies! I posted this over on the 12-24 board, but thought you ladies may have some helpful suggestions for a much needed vacation this summer. I've been looking online, but so many 'child-friendly' vacation suggestions are just places that have child care, which isn't what we're looking for. We'd like something we can enjoy as a family - we're in Washington state and welcome any suggestions! What family vacation was a big hit when your LOs were younger toddlers? TIA!
Re: XP from 12-24 - vacation spots for a then 19 month old?
At that age I think I'd find a nice hotel w/ pool or whatever that is in a place that has a lot of outside activities to go do- eg aquarium, zoo, boat trips, children's museum, etc. 19 months is still a pretty tough age, short attention span, midday nap, still not able to do a lot of 'activities', etc.
Are you looking to stay on the west coast? I would think southern CA might have some cool areas (I have no idea though). Or maybe Arizona, you could see some interesting things & I would think the Phoenix area might have some good stuff for kids. Lots of state & national parks out the west coast way if that is your cup of tea too???
At just under 2, we did beach trips- condo rental, beach town, they could play in the sand, go in the pool, we had a space to hang out in during nap time & after LO went to bed (with balcony to relax/read), and then a couple days we'd go 'do' something in the local area (at that time we were going to the SC beach areas b/c we lived not far from there). I am of the opinion that at that age, kids love anythign new & different so you can still tailor to things you & your H enjoy b/c your LO will think anything is fascinating.
GL!
Agree with PP- San Diego has Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, an aquarium, LegoLand (which has another aquarium), and lots of beaches. I would think if you stayed at a hotel with an awesome pool near the beach, the water would keep LO occupied a lot of the time, and there are plenty of kid-friendly options if you leave the hotel.
We also took DS to Maui and stayed at a resort with several pools on the beach- we spent a lot of time there, went to the aquarium, went on boat rides, etc. and had a blast.
Some of the place we've taken DD- Orlando/West Palm Beach. We did a day at Sea World (she loves the aquarium in New Orleans), Lion Country Safari, and spent some time with my grandmother and did the beach and hit up a few sites around her town where you can frequently see manatees.
We've also done Destin, FL and Ft. Walton beach. We stayed at a condo and did the beach for several days, and when we wanted something new we went to the zoo/aquarium.
The past 2 summers we've done Cape Cod/Boston. This by far is my idea of the perfect vacation. We stay at my aunt' house on the cape and we can do as little or as much as we please. Boston is also a short drive away and there are TONS of fun things to do with a toddler.
