Display Shower Tags

For my shower we are doing a display for the gifts. I would like to put tags on each gift so say who it?s from. Has anybody done this before and if so where did you get your tags or did you make them yourself and how did the display shower work out?

*I know many do not approve of the display shower but it is my choice and the decision has already been made so please keep your comments relevant to the question.

Thank you,

I'm impatient - I googled it. A "display" shower (or "green/environmentally friendly" shower if you want to try and score some etiquette points) is where guests are instructed to not wrap their gifts and to just put them on a table in a display. Then throughout the party, people can just peruse the display to ooh and ahh at what was purchased.

So, buy me gifts, but I'm not even gonna open 'em. Just put them over there. lol

  • We did this for my bridal shower.  A display table with unwrapped gifts with labels on them showing who brought them for anyone who wanted to see and thank yous later.

We just bought labels from staples and  my bridesmaids asked their name when the guest walked in.

I think you can find some nice ones at michaels.

Oh trust me, that sounds much more fun than the time it takes to open gifts (on both sides), but I feel like this falls into the category of don't tell people what to do with their generosity (i.e. bring a book instead of a card, money only, bring a gift and something for the wishing well).

  • Agree you can find cute pre-made tags at Michaels.  Or they sell hole-punch type devices in the shape of tags that you can use to make tags out of any cute paper.

We did this at my bridal shower.  I did sit an unwrap gifts from close family that were non-registry type items - heirlooms, etc.  While it may come across as dictating what people should do with their generosity, aren't we sort of already pointing people in that direction by making a registry in the first place?  Feedback from the guests at display showers I have attended has always been positive.  Most of the ladies appreciate that they can spend the time socializing rather than watch you open gifts that you picked out.  I should also point out that at my bridal shower I acknowledged every person and thanked them for the specific gift they brought.

As you can see from the comments above some people do not approve of the concept of a display shower. Knowing this I would rather get actual feedback from people not just opinions on the concept itself.  And I thank you for your suggestion on the tags

Oh calm down - its okay! Some people approve of a "regular shower" while other people balk at it and vice versa. No one is going to always love the same things! We're just poking fun.

FWIW, I think showers are lose-lose situations. No matter what you do, you're always burning at least half the etiquette rules regardless of intention. Might as well laugh about it.

It was so great no games , no bow hat, no wicker chair, no ooooohs and ahhhs i was what they called the anti-bride.  Didnt throw bouquet or do the garter or other traditional things.

It was a luncheon, with sangria, open bar, karaoke and dancing, slideshow and good friends.  Alot of people thanked us for not making them sit through an hour of kitchen appliances and towels.

  • My husband's cousins wife did this for her bridal shower and it actually was very nice. And she did go through every gift one at a time, she just didn't unwrap them. She walked the entire length of the table commented on every gift and thanked every giver. We are not close to them but I imagine that for them it really was the environmental concerns since it did not save any time and every gift was acknowledged.

  • I've been to one and it was a couples shower. What guy wants to sit around and watch a woman open baby gifts? I really enjoyed it, you could socialize more. It is also "green" and saves the gift giver time and money on wrapping. Win/Win/Win to me but obviously some people would get their panties in a wad about it (I had no idea it was unacceptable until seeing some of these responses). For the record, I'm in the South but I don't know if it is a Southern thing?
