Bathtub

Hello,

Im a FTM with a 7 mo baby boy. We are moving to a home w no bathtub in LO's bathroom. We currently give him in a bath in a inflatable baby bathtub (inside his current room bathroom).

Is it a must to have a bathtub? What are the options, install a bathtub? Any ideas of the cost?

Thanks a lot!

Re: Bathtub

  • Can you not bathe him in the master bath? We have a bathtub in my DDs bathroom, but I bathe her in my tub because it is much larger.

  • I wouldn't install a bathtub unless there's no other tub in the house. If you have one in the master I would use that.  We have a bathtub in the kids' bathroom and we still use the master anyway.

If you don't have any other bathtub, I would consider installing one but it would depend on how much room you have and the cost.  If it would be a big hassle and expensive, I'd get him to like showers pretty quickly!  Having a tub is ideal though, kids love bathtime. :)

  • We had a bathtub when DD was little, and I would be lying if I said I don't miss it.  Our house now has one bathroom the size of a coat closet (in fact, it was originally a closet back when it was built), and it wouldn't fit a standard bathtub if we tried.  We have a tiny shower, and aside from when the kids take a bath at a grandparents house (they somehow always want to take baths at my parents' house ... maybe because they are deprived?), it is mostly showers for them.  DS seems to enjoy showering.  We have a handheld shower head, and he spends 20+ minutes filling containers and dumping them and just playing with the water.

I don't think a shower is necessary, but a bathtub would have been so nice when he was a bit younger.  DS was an abnormally large baby, so he outgrew his bathtub before he could sit up well enough to just sit in the bottom of the shower, DH and I tag-teamed the showers.  I would get in, he would give me DS, he would soap him, he would hold the shower head to rinse him, and then I would hand him back to DH so he could wrap him in a towel.

  • Hey this sounds like us soon! We're moving into a house with a nice walk in shower but not tub. We will use an inflatable mini pool inside of the shower until we can get a bath tub installed. Bath tub installation is near the top of our home improvements list.

I don't think anyone can really give you an approximate cost because there are too many factors. What kind of tub do you want? What is your LCOL and how much to plumbers charge? Are you doing the work yourself? etc.

We will buy a tub and DH will do the work so it's not going to be a huge expense for us but really, it depends on your situation.

  • Is there another bath tub in the house?  If so, I would bathe him there.  Otherwise, I personally would not want to move to a home without a tub.

This exactly. My kids love using my tub and it's easier for me
