Hi there,
My 12 month old son has a very bad diaper rash right now. It's so bad that he has several very tiny open sores around his bum. I have tried oatmeal baths, aquaphor, destine, vaseline w corn starch, and nothing. I have heard good things about Boudreaux Butt Paste, but was wondering what other mommies' experiences have been? How serious was your little one's diaper rash when you used it? Did it cure their bum's? How quick till it cleared after you started using it?
Thanks for your help!
Re: boudreaux butt paste? What have been your results?
Can I get that at Target in the baby aisle?
Another Triple Paste fan.
Yep. Ours was at walmart.
ETA: tub or tube - they didn't have the tub when we got ours, so we got the tube.
Great! Thank you so much! Getting it today!

We use it...honestly it has the same active ingredients as Desitin, and I believe it's close tot he same percentage. We got some free samples of a gel from our pedi when LO had a really bad one. It seemed to help...she even said you could use vaseline...just anything to keep wetness from the area.
Hope you find something that works. Poor little guy.
If it doesn't get better, you might want to go to the doctor - DS happened to have a bad one when we had a doctor visit once, and the doctor gave us some other stuff. I want to say it was bacitracin ointment or something else like that.
Desitin and Boudreax's almost always work for DS.
Boudreux's and Desitin does have the same zinc content. I found that Little Goat's has worked the best. Try it if the triple paste doesn't work. We threw out the desitin and boudreauxs.

this, when we get bad rashes here none of the OTC creams do anything, there is a prescription cream from the dr that has a small amount of steroid plus something else and it clears it up pretty much overnight. I would call the dr if its really bad!
we use motherlove which is an olive oil all natural based cream... all of the stuff with zinc makes him scream bloody murder so I think it burns when I put it on him versus the motherlove doesn't and can do double duty for thrush cream for mom and baby... it certainly felt good when I was BF and had thrush....
ETA: sorry forgot to specify it was the "motherlove diaper rash and thrush cream"
If you have open sores, you need to heal the sores first. They need to be well cleaned, dry and you need to use a medicated ointment. Regular diaper rash cream isn't going to cut it. We had to use a prescription ointment to heal my LO's bum in that case. Then, we made sure that his butt was clean, dry and fully creamed at every diaper change. To me, Boudreaux is a good maintenance paste, but not a good healing one. I prefer purple Desitin for healing an actual rash, and different measures for healing an open sore. I've heard of people using triple antibiotic mixed in with lanolin for healing sores, but I haven't tried it.
This was my response to a previous post similar to yours:
DS got a yeast infection due to a bad weeklong diaper rash. The advice nurse told us this:
- for a week do a baking soda bath 2-3x/day. 4 Tbsp baking soda in 4 inches of water. Soak LO for 10 minutes.
- don't use wipes at diaper changes. Rinse in sink. It's gross but wipes were so painful for DS and this really helped.
- No onesies and loose diaper.
- OTC cream mix (these products can be purchased at the dollar store. Even the nurse suggested this!)
* hyrdrocortisone
* zinc oxide (diaper cream)
* monostat ointment (miconazole)
* clotrimazole
~Mix equal parts and apply after every diaper change~
We didn't apply this until that evening and the next day there was a HUGE improvement.Married October 16th, 2010
