Pregnant after 35

Is it wrong to be excited about pretty compression socks?

I have always worn light compression socks to work because 12 hours on my feet makes for unhappy feet and I fear varicose veins like the Devil Himself.

But with the pregnancy, my feet swell more and so I came to the conclusion last night that this was no longer a luxury-- and I broke down and bought some cuter-looking compression socks, which thankfully save me from having to buy the medical versions (ugly, nasty stocking things).

I had to stop myself from paying for the expedited shipping, I'm so excited!

  • You can't tease us like that and not provide a pic or a link...Wink I have plain white cotton sock ones from Juzo, but they are very light compression (15-20 mmHg). To paraphrase Tom Cruise, SHOW US THE SOCKIES!

  • Go here and if the link only takes you to the home page, then search for "compression socks." I bought the Elevation ones for work (20-30mmHg compression) to replace my current ones which are only 8mmHg. But I will be buying the argyle ones (15-20mmHg) for walking around when I'm not working...

I love that they are not plain stocking fabric, or ribbed (so itchy to have the grooves in my skin up to my knees after work), or just blah white/black/or navy blue. And they moisture wick and such so they won't stink after half a shift!

  • These are great.  The diabetic socks worked better for me than the compression hose.  I found some in CVS and they are not cute.

Those ARE nice! Very pretty! I'll have to remember TravelSmith if I need to get another pair later.

They have diabetic-specific socks, too, that are not ugly.

I particularly like the fact that I won't have to worry about getting all sweaty and what-not, because the TEDs are nasty and hot! Blech!

Yesterday, my feet were throbbing and bulging over my shoes (I didn't wear my clogs, but a pair of Bass shoes instead), as well as causing cramps-- and it started only about halfway into my shift. I spent the 2nd half of the shift (an entire 6 more hours) hobbling around, literally. People asked if I had thrown out my back of something. It was horrible. Never again. And especially not if I'm only going to start expanding exponentially now that I'm at 20 weeks!

  • At this point it seems like a waste to buy them.  I will onnly be pregnant for 3-7 more weeks.  By the time they would get to my house, I probably will not need them much longer.

Hi Danielle!! I just ordered myself another pair of these and I'm not even PG...lol!! Now the ones you bought are they tight fitting and help like the ugly fugly ones? I have ones that come up to my thigh because I need support there also. Sucks having varicose veins!! Yours seem so cute :)

  • I haven't worn these yet, but they have good reviews. Some of the reviewers were nurses and some of them long-distance air travelers. I'll let you know how they feel. Any compression stocking is going to be tight fitting-- especially to get on. The key is if they're comfy once they're on, of course.

I'll give a review once I've gotten a chance to wear them.
