I just found out that I am 4 weeks pregnant with our first baby. We are so stinking excited! I did take an at home pregnancy test, came back positive. I called the doctor this morning and they don't even want me in until I'm 12 weeks. Should I be confused on why they don't want to make sure I'm pregnant? I think I'm going to take another at home test. I'm also confused because I haven't felt nauseous, my boobs feel fine and I just haven't had the typical symptoms of pregnancy, except some small cramps and discomfort.
Sorry for the long post!
Re: Confused. Need input, please
I think this is somewhat common. My doc had me come in for a urine test last week, gave me a bunch of info, and I was out the door. I go back at 8 weeks.
If you want a confirmation of the pregnancy, maybe call back and ask to come in? Though if they just do urine, it may not be worth your copay.
It's a really long wait..... But after 30ish weeks I'm sure we will all be sick of going to the doctor.
And enjoy being symptomless. All i have is a little breast soreness and fall asleep earlier than normal. :

Home pregnancy tests are really accurate, but it doesn't hurt to do a second (I think everyone on this board can admit to doing 3 or 4...or more!). I'm surprised that your doctor won't see you until 12 weeks. That seems odd. I'd definitely call back and see if you can get in earlier!
I wouldn't worry about a lack of symptoms. I don't have any either and I'm also four weeks. During my first pregnancy I didn't get any until 7 weeks and I know lots of women who didn't get any! Having symptoms isn't a sign of a healthy pregnancy, so just be grateful you're not hanging over a toilet
This exactly!
I made an appoinment when I first found out I was pregnant and they wanted to see me at 6 weeks. Then I read reviews on where to have your baby in Houston and I decided to switch doctors. When I called to schedule an appointment at the new place they would not see you until you were 7 to 9 weeks pregnant. It must just vary by doctor. 12 weeks seems a little long though, maybe do some research on where you want to have your baby and make a new appointment with a new doctor.
Also as far as your lack of symptoms. I am 4 weeks and 1 day and i have not felt any signs of nausea, heartburn, etc. My boobs are a little sore but not too much and some minor minor minor cramps. Makes me nervous, but I keep reading that it is fine. I have taken like 4 pregnancy tests!
Congratulations!!
With my first pregnancy the only symptom I had was a missed period - everything else was "normal". I had a fantastic pregnancy! My DS is now 6 months old and I believe I am expecting again! This time, however, I'm having a lot of symptoms but no positive home test yet! Go figure! I've only had one period since my DS was born (Dec.1/12) and I realize it takes a while for my cycle to regulate again but there's no way I can ignore these symptoms.
Anyway, don't worry about not having "the typical symptoms of pregnancy". Maybe you won't have anything major. Start a journal and record everything! You'll be happy you did.
First of all, most women don't experience any symptoms until at least 6 weeks; you're at 4, when you'll just have missed a period, so you really shouldn't have any symptoms yet anyways. Generally it takes a few weeks after conception for enough hormones to build up in your body and cause symptoms. So, enjoy being symptom-free for now, you may regret wishing for them when/if they really hit!
Second, symptoms or their lack have absolutely nothing to do with the health of a pregnancy. Some women get them, some don't, and it can vary from pregnancy to pregnancy with the same woman too. I had horrible m/s with my daughter, this time around at over 7 weeks I've had nothing really except sore nipples - and I'm so freaking happy to not be hanging over a toilet like I was before! Knock on wood it continues.
Third, it's common for doctors to not see you until 8-12 weeks, especially if you don't have a history of problems with fertility or miscarriage. While it's nice if you get a doctor who will see you earlier and get out the vag cam for an early ultrasound, it's not typical nor is it necessary, as there's really nothing much a doctor can do for you in first tri anyways, even if you have problems or threaten to miscarry. And baby is really hard to see well earlier than 10-12 weeks, sometimes going in earlier and having an u/s backfires when development looks to be a bit slower and causes unnecessary worry early on. Ultimately, it makes sense that doctors don't really need to see a pregnant woman until around the end of first tri, once the pregnancy is well-established and chance of miscarriage is greatly reduced. I myself won't have an appointment until my 12th week, where I'll get the full pelvic exam, probably a doppler to find the heartbeat, and pee in a cup. Nothing much to be done before then that's really of any use!

All ALers welcome!
With my first pregnancy, I didn't go in until 10weeks. But, since I miscarried that one, I am going in for visits every two weeks until that 12 week mark! So, yes, for some OBs, this is normal, and I know how hard and nerve racking that wait can be! Good luck to you!
