LO's bedtime?

I think this has been discussed before, but I can't find anything on it easily, sorry. But do you have a time that you put LO 'to bed' for the night? We are EBF, but DD is a great sleeper. Since our first day home, I have stated her 'last' feeding at about 9:30pm it's generally the only time I wake her to feed her. I could nurse her, burp her and still be in bed by 10:00 or so myself. She has been going 5 to 7 hours that first stretch if the night, and 3 to 4 more hours after that. Last night she nursed at 8:00, and I had her tucked in by 8:30. I decided to just let her sleep, and she still went 6 hours before waking again. I am just wondering if anyone sets a bed time for LO before their own, lets LO determine their own bed time or do you try to get that last feeding in still before you go to bed?

Re: LO's bedtime?

  • We do our bedtime routine at 7 or 730ish, depending on the last time she ate. She usually wakes up to eat again around 930 or 10, and then has her longest sleep after that...

  • What is this sleep you speak of? LO wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat, so I guess it doesn't really matter what time I put him to bed. I do try to at least put him in his crib at 8-8:30. It takes about an hour after that to get him to go to sleep.

  • with our first we could never get her on a schedule for a late bedtime close to ours (9-10pm) which meant up more frequently at night. She would go to sleep between 7 and 8 then up at midnight and again at 3-4ish. Luckily husband is a night owl and would stay up to bottle feed for the midnight feeding I'd go to bed at 9 is we could each get ~6 hours straight. With this LO we've gotten her schedule so she up until 9-10 for her last feeding. they is up 1-2ish and again at 5ish which is when we'll have to get up once I go back to work.

So far this has been working well. Hoping that with going back to work/LO going to daycare she keeps her schedule. It's been working out so well for us.

  • I wish we could establish some sort of bed time routine but LO still wakes up every 34 hours.

He usually gets up around 3/4am then 6/7am and finally 9/10am and then we start our day from there.

Something like this except the 2 to 5 am range includes a wakeful phase most days ... when pregnant, this was when i tended to have trouble sleepping, would get hungry and she'd be active.

We will then sleep until 7 or 8 am ish, nurse, change diaper, nurse and shell sleep until 11am ish or as late as 1 pm. Eat, diaper, eat maybe fuss, then do another power nap unless she gets colicky. I think rather than a schedule based on a 24 hour day, she is on a 20 to 22 hour rotation.
