Does he have any other allergies? Do you have a family history of allergies? If not, I wouldn't worry so much. As has been discussed about peanuts, waiting doesn't decrease the risk of LO having an allergy (in fact, new studies suggest it might increase it!). The reason some wait is more because it's easier to treat LO now that they're older/bigger, if they do have a reaction.
That being said, Lily hasn't had any shellfish, but that's because we're Jewish and she and I won't eat any pig or shellfish (DH can eat what he wants, but not in the house).
DH has some pretty serious tree nut allergies. I don't have anything, hopefully he takes after my side of the family in that respect. I should just purchase some and try it, especially after what you mentioned about those latest studies.
I didn't know that Jewish people don't eat shellfish, I thought that it was just pork. You learn something every day!
We haven't given DS a ton of shellfish (a whole meal) but he has had some that was in DH's food. A specific example...DH gave DS some of his seafood puttanesca, including the shrimp, on a couple of occasions.
Anyone give their LOs shellfish yet?nbsp; Any reactions?nbsp; I'm nervous.nbsp; We got the allclear at our year appt., I just haven't done it yet.
B accidentally got his hands on the tail of a shrimp and put it to his mouth. He had it for maybe a few seconds. My mom freaked out and said babies can't have she'll fish until 3 so I got all paranoid and B was fussy after that. A few hours later it turns out he was fussy Because he was sick with the flu/stomach bug! Either way I am completely freaked out about shell fish now! I will be holding off for a bit still. But if your doc said it was fine and you don't have a family history and you feel comfortable doing it, then go for it!
I was nervous about giving her shellfish. DH had a reaction as a kid, but she was begging for some shrimp one night and she loved them. No notable reactions.
Pedi told us at his 12 month appt that he could eat anything he wants but stay away from peanuts and shell fish until he gives us the ok. We had his 15 month appt on Thursday but had to cancel because we both had the flu. Maybe he will give us the ok then. If your pedi gave you the ok I say go for it! I would try it for the first time at home and during the afternoon [after a nap] so I could keep an eye on him but I am paranoid.
Our Pedi said 2 for shellfish. I know 1 is the typical recommendation though. I am nervous about shellfish for some reason and actually feel more comfortable waiting anyway. At least until DS can communicate better just in case he does have a reaction.
H hates any kind of fish though so we rarely have it at home. It's usually only when we are out to eat or a party that either one of us eats fish. Which is for me because I loooooove anything from the sea.

Me too!!! I actually just started eating shrimp and man have I been missing out all my life! DH and I just had a full on seafood weekend! Shrimp, lobster and fish all weekend it was glorious!
I didn't know we were supposed to wait until 1 N has had shrimp and crab legs and liked them both. She's had no allergic reaction.
You're not, unless your child has other risk factors (other allergies, excema or family history of allergies). Waiting is outdated advice, but people need to do what they're comfortable with.

That sounds amazing! I try to tell H he is missing out, but he gets sick just from the smell of fish cooking. ( So everytime I go out to eat I order some type of seafood.
I can eat sushi in the house though, since it doesn't smell. Have you tried sushi yet? Soooo good.
S has had shellfish since about 7 months. I wasn't too worried about starting her because we had no history of allergies, but then my mom had a reaction to shrimp last year (she's in her 50s). I didn't even realize you could spontaneously develop allergies as a, ahem, mature adult.

Whew. N's been eating shrimp since about 10 months. I've tried to incorporate more fish into our diet to cut out some red meat. DH is a total meat guy so doing a meatless meal wouldn't work but we compromised on fish. We do shrimp at least ever other week!

Oh yes, I love sushi! There is an all you can eat place by my house and it is so cheap, we go and over indulge in sushi all the time!
That sucks you can't cook it in the house, have you tried a less stinky variety?
We did shrimp the second day LBB started solids - so that would have been 6 months. He's had shellfish ever since (shrimp, scallops, crab, lobster). He love love loves shrimp.
Seafood is my favorite and L eats a lot of fish and even seaweed but hasn't had any shellfish yet. I love crab but it does make me slightly itchy, and I had a bad reaction with full on hallucinations after eating clams when I was little. Granted, I had about two pints of them, but it makes me wary. Shrimp and scallops are often main ingredients in pureed baby food in Japan so it's different strokes for different folks, but even here they say hold off on the raw sushi till I think three? It may even be five, can't remember. Even the good stuff is full of bacteria and I've never heard of a baby who could eat the wasabi to kill it.
DD has been eating lobster, shrimp & scallops (sometimes all together as a casserole or baked-stuffed lobster) since June/July.
