Repost from 0-3:Anyone live in or near Orlando?

(I also posted this in 0-3 mths)

DH just received a promotion with work that is relocating us from NY to Orlando next month. We managed to quickly sell our house up here and by a house down there all last weekend and plan to close at the end of February so now I have to find daycare and pediatricians.

We have 2 DS's, an almost 3 yo and a 2mo. I've done a little research regarding daycare and am reaching out to a few centers for information but I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for me? I'd love to hear from anyone living in the area and your suggestions for daycare, pediatricians, pediatric dentists, which hospitals to use if/when we need one etc....

We are going to be moving to Winter Garden....

Thanks in advance for any input you might have, this is a very stressful time for me, I've lived here my whole life and both families are up here so it's hard to move away. Plus, I just returned to work this week and DH has to travel to FL weekly until we move so everything is on me right now... I'll be happy once we are down there and I'm settled in!

Thanks again!

  • Hello!  Fellow Orlandoian here!

Congrats on your move!  I would highly recommend our pediatrician, Dr. Yarckin.  He is in Ocoee, which is real close to Winter Garden.

With daycares, it really depends on where you/DH will be working as well.  For example we live in Metrowest area, and there really weren't any good daycares there, but there are a ton where I work (Winter Park and Downtown Orlando area). Both my brother and SIL use Children's Lighthouse daycare which is right on the border of Ocoee/Winter Garden (they both live in Winter Garden)

As for hospitals, Winnie Palmer is top notch for babies, and is in Downtown Orlando.  I actually delivered at South Lake Hospital which is in Clermont (west of WG).  It's a smaller hospital and I really enjoyed it.  I would stay away from Health Central, it's also in Ocoee and will probably be the closest hospital, but it has really bad reviews (although they were recently bought out by another hospital so they should be getting better).

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions, you can PM me.

  • Congrats on your move!!!

Here are my suggestions - as for pedi, I can't rave enough about Peds Associates of Orlando. They have 2 offices and one is in Ocoee. I actually go to the other one but the same doctors treat at both. The whole practice is amazing. And an added plus, they are open every day, 365 days a year. On weekends and holidays, they are open in the morning. It is great because your kids always get to see someone who has their history and not a walk in or urgent care place. They also have late evening appts when your kids get sick at the end of the day so you don't have to go through another night. Plus, they are all very knowledgeable, nice, realistic. As I said, I can't rave about them enough.

As for daycare, StarChild Academy has a location out there. Again, I go to another location on the other side of town. But they are awesome. Cameras in everyroom so you can log on and watch your kids. I have heard good things about the Lighhouse one the PP talked about too.

Good luck, feel free to PM if you want to chat more about Orlando.

  • Thank you both for your suggestions! My goal this week is to work on Daycare and a Pediatrician so I will check out both of your suggestions.

    I really appreciate the responses!!
