Car Seats.

DS is about 1 inch away from growing out of his infant car seat.  I realize that the next logical step is to get a convertible; but if his infant seat does last till his first birthday; (I kinda doubt it will but hypothetically) is there another option?  I just hate the idea of buying 5 different car seats in the next 10 years.

Also could I have some carseat recommendations?

Re: Car Seats.

  • The convertible seat we got should be the only other car seat we will need.  It even converts into a booster seat for when he is older. I would just look for one that does that!

  • What's the car seat brand? I would love to get it!
  • 3 in 1 car seat do not make good boosters and typically are outgrown by height by age 3 3 1/2. Boosters are not terribly expensive and you'll likely need one anyway, most place have a booster till 8 law, and that could be bumped up by the time you need one anyway (and if it's the Alpha Omega Elite, Eddie Bauer/Safety 1st/Cosco/Dorel, it will not fit a 6-8 year old for height)

If you don't have a big budget, look at the Graco Size4Me, it will ERF and likely last harnessed to age 5 or more, and lo should pass the booster test by then. Also look at the Diono Radian or Clek Foonf if you have more wiggle room.

  • My Pedi said to go by the weight. He was getting close to the height max too (but then he slowed down)

And i agree. just make sure the next seat you get is a convertable seat. meaning it can be both rear facing (which is recommened to age 2) and then can be turned around to be foward facing. And get the biggest weight you see. I hear the Graco size for me is a really good one. and probably what we will go to next. Britax i have heard is a smaller seat so if you have a long baby i wouldn't get it.

Booster seats are around 20-25 dollars.

We have two Recaro ProRides and love them. I read a million reviews before buying and had narrowed it down to the Recaro ProRide and the Britax Marathon. Both are rated up to 70lbs. What sold me on the Recaro (other than the fact my DH already had been using one for her in his car since birth--he races cars and wanted a Recaro since they make racing seats) was that on the amazon reviews people stated that the Proride was easier to see out of (DD loves to look out the window) and that the buckles were easier to unlatch. So far so good. DD seems comfy and can see well in the seat and it's super easy to get her out of, even rear facing.

I've been looking at Recaro's, too. Will they fit in a mid-size sedan?
