3rd Trimester

Never had a PPO before

I have always had an HMO but I got laid off from my job in the middle of my pregnancy and had to get on my husband's PPO. Not only did I have to meet the $300 deductible, but I also had to prepay $400 for the delivery. I thought that $400 was for the entire delivery but it turns out that was just the doctor's portion and the hospital sent me an estimate for another $500! Merry frickin Christmas!

  • Just be glad your DH had coverage you could get onto instead of having to pay for COBRA!!

  • Exactly why I chose an HMO even though the premiums went up $40 a month for 2009. I have gone to the hospital and have seen so many doctors in 2008 that if I would've had a PPO I would have paid so much more for the services I received.
  • I actually love having a PPO and for me it's worth the extra expense... once you meet your deductibles for the year, you'll hopefully appreciate the greater choice you have in who you receive medical care from.  When I was looking for pediatricians, I was fortunate in that my coverage would basically work anywhere I wanted to go... plus no gate-keepers to keep me from specialists!
  • WOW!!! I have PPO and the only thing that I have had to pay through out this entire thing is my co-payment. And that was $10 at my very first appointemnt, after that everything else was covered.

    Which PPO do you have?
