SAHM and DC

Are there any SAHM's that have their kids in childcare one or two days a week? If so, how is it working out?

I am thinking of putting Gator in daycare one to two days a week. I think she is bored out of her mind at home and it seems that our playgroups are never consistant. I would like her to have more social interaction with kids her age and make little friends. Ideally, I would like it to be one day a week but I know some places have a minimum amount of days you have to attend.

It's funny because I always gave SAHM the side eye of they got childcare for their kid....and now that I have a kid of my own I am contemplating it. Since SO works from home, he goes into the office once a week on Friday. It would be nice if Gator could go to daycare to interact with others while I have the house to myself to clean, run errands, and whatever time is left...have some quiet "me" time before picking her up.

  • We are thinking about doing this around 18 months.  There is a great DC at a local church that will let you pay for just one day.  I think it will be great for A to have a little social interaction, with out me loitering ;)

I am thinking about getting her in with another SAHM's son at a center so at least they already know each other, or putting her in a in-home daycare that my friend has been using for the past 2 years and really loves. I am still in the point of checking things out.

Oh and I discovered that anasazi was a bean yesterday. I was reading through some vegan recipes and saw anasazi and thought..."Hey I know a Anasazi!". I had no idea it was a bean. HA!

  • I'm not a SAHM, but P is home with DH or my Mom during the week. We take him to Gymboree twice a week and it works for now, but when he's around 2 and the new baby comes, we will be putting him in DC part time.

My mom would love to have Gator one day a week but then Gator isn't around any other kids. And as of right now, Gator only knows being taken care of by me, SO, IL, my parents, and my sister (when we go out of town). There used to be a Gymboree in our area but they closed years ago. We are part of a playgroup but it is like an hour of play with random people (its usually just whoever can show up, shows up...so it is different people all of the time) at a public place. So it is nothing really consistent.

I just talked to my friend and there are openings where her daughter goes so we are going to go and look at it this week. We grew up together so it would be cool that they would get to see each other once a week and grow up together too!

  • I've been thinking about doing this for some time now, but I've decided to wait until cold/flu season is over.  I also have less than desired options for DC in my town.  I had Nora in DC for the first 6 months, but I don't believe my lady has an opening.  I will try her again in a couple of months, because there are some questionable in-home providers.  We don't have a facility DC in our town.

  • When I SAH E went to a full day preschool 2 days a week 9 to 3 because they fed him and he took an afternoon nap immediately followed by snack and potty. It was run by a family friend and he was there with 2 friends. They worked on K preparedness things I never would have thought of. I didn't realize the school he goes to now offered pre K 3 so he started this school at 4 but Lo will be there at 3 for 3 hours a day 5 days a week.

  • I'm thinking about this too. I don't SAH but I WAH most days and on the few days a week I am in the office my sister comes here to watch E. I feel like she's ok for now playing in our small house, but at some point these four walls aren't going to be enough for her anymore. We try to take her on outings, but they are often my errands and not toddler centric. We're also one and done so she spends zero time with any other children. She loves our songs, and our crafts, and her toys, but I'm thinking that she'll want more at some point. My goal is to put her in for 1/2 day two days per week so that she can play with other kids and experience life outside of our house! Probably around 18 months or 2 years old.
