Materniti21 appt question

Curious what will happen at the M21 test appt. I'm certain there is no u/s scheduled. The nurse said I had to meet with a doctor (I pressed to have it right at 10 weeks). My assumption is that its just a blood test and a conversation to review the potential outcomes, right? Anything else I should anticipate?

Re: Materniti21 appt question

  • I just had my blood drawn for the Harmony test ( same as M21) today at my regular 10 wk appt.  My OB and I had already discussed Harmony vs NT scan and what they test for. So today it was just a simple blood draw.

  • I had to meet with a genetic counselor-- not a doctor-- and she went over a summary that I had to fill out (MH and my genetic background, family history, etc). Then she explained how the MaterniT21 test works, I asked some questions which she answered or promised to find out the answers to (which she did and called me later that day). Then I took the blood test.

She called to give me the results of the blood test and we chatted a little over the phone about the results-- I didn't want to know the gender, so she had to keep that from me-- and that was that.

This but my genetic counselor was also a doctor (phD Vs. MD).

  • What is this test for? What are they looking for? My insurance doesn't cover the whole thing and i'll end up paying about $300 for it.  I don't know if I want to have it done.
