Baby Names

alright...let me have it...

We're team green.

I've said in previous posts, we have a Meika (mee-kah) James already.

Girl - Leni Ann

Boy - Hendrix Miles

(or some other one syllable middle name I've yet to come up with)

Ann is my mothers MN and his grandmothers name

Came up with Hendrix to honor his grandfather Henry, but Henry, a fine name that is it, is NMS.

Boy middle name is still up for debate.

be gentle :]

  • Leni is cute.

Hate Hendrix. Not a great role model to name your child after imo. What about Hendrick or Henrik? I like Henrik with Meika.

  • I like Leni Ann and think it works well with Meika.  Is it pronounced Len-E or Lean-E?

I'll be honest, I don't love Hendrix.  I would assume you were a Jimi Hendrix fan.  Would you consider Heinrich/Henrik?

     Thanks!

and Hendrix wouldn't be after anyone but his grandfather.  I guess the connection would always be made or in peoples minds though.  Good to consider I guess...

Hendrick isn't bad.  I dislike Henrik.  Have to see if Hendrick grows on me

When I first saw Leni I was reading it as "Len-E"  I forget the origin but there is another site that said I think the german origin of it is "lean-E"  I actually like both.  I'd probably leave it up to DH to decide on how he would like to pronounce it :P

In no way would I be naming my kid after Jimi though :P  I can see why folks may think that I'd be just a huge jimi fan though.  Something to think about.

  • When I see a name like Hendrix Mikes, it makes me feel dyslexic. And you can't escape the j Hendrix association.

  • I like other people's suggestions of boy names for you.

And while I'm not a fan of last names for first names in general, I think Hendricks is a bit better, and doesn't lead people to the Jimmi reference.

Also, what about Hank? That is a common nickname for Henry. Could work for a full name too IMO.

  • I love Ann and I like Miles.

Leni sounds like Lenny feminized. NMS

Hendrix reminds me of Jimmy. Not good

Henry is really nice! What about the french Henri?

  • Leni seems somehow incomplete to me - and also is masculine to me (Lenny) bc it's my step dad's name.  Hate Hendrix, sorry!  But I LOVE Miles.

  • Sorry, I don't care for either.

  • I really like both of your names. Hendrix is a tad unusual for me but sounds good nonetheless.

  • Hendrix seems like it would work a lot better in the mn spot, imo.  Miles Hendrix?

I like Leni Ann but not when pronounces leen-E.  I knew a girl named Olena nn Leni (O-len-uh)

  • Thanks for the thoughts all!

I really hate that the first thing folks think of with Hendrix is Jimi.  :l  bummer

Not a fan of Hank, Harry, Henry, Henri or any version of really.  I'm difficult I guess

Miles is too popular for a first name IMO.  I picked it to go with his suggestion of Hendrix bc I like the sound of two syllable FN and then one syllable MN.  Both were names DH put on his list since my list is...well..blank for boys :l

Hendrick might be an option.  It gets the sound I guess I'm going for and isn't spelled the same so hopefully will nix the reference.  I was digging the 'x' on the end though!  haha!  I have no clue why and its a small thing to change.

Miles is becoming so popular :(  #115 or something.  I agree it sounds nice but I really dislike the popularity factor in the name.

  • Ann and Miles are really nice...

    and thats it

  • Sorry, but if you use Hendrix, or even Hendrick, most people are going to assume that it's for Jimi Hendrix. Nobody's going to guess that Grandpa was named "Henry". And honestly, if somebody tried telling me they named their kid Hendrix/Hendrick because Grandpa was named Henry, I'd secretly be thinking "Then why didn't you just name the kid Henry?" ... and I can't imagine I'm the only one who would be thinking that.

I'm more than willing to start validating people's ideas when they start having ideas worth validating

  • Leni strikes me as a NN. It's NMS, but okay with Meika. Hendrix is awful, sorry. I think it's s too much of a stretch when Hendrix has an association of its own. I just don't see the honoring of Henry when Hendrix is a totally different name

  • Everyone will think of Jimi Hendrix for the name Hendrix. It honestly sounds like a parent trying too hard, trying to be cool, or hipster to me. Sorry, I can't picture the name being particularly cute on a child OR aging well for an adult.

Leni is ok but sounds like a NN to me. I'd try to come up with a formal name to use Leni as the NN.  It also sounds kind of masculine to me.

Leni is indeed a German name, in German it is actually pronounced LAY-nee (emphasis on 'lay').

Hendrick is a Dutch name, or at least the most common Dutch variety of 'Henry'. Although here (living in the Netherlands and Belgium) it is usually spelled 'Hendrik'. It is cute, but pretty old-fashioned were we live, I expect it to make a comeback anytime now because of the vintage trend.

Just so you know a little more on the origin :)

What about Felix? It has the 'x' on the end that you liked with Hendrix, and isn't overly popular like Miles. Felix Henry would still honor your family, and is so much better than Hendrix imo.

ETA: Meika and Felix are a cute sibset too!

Everyone that he ever meets will make a Jimi Hendrix joke. That is actually my maiden name, and I promise, sometimes it felt like I couldnt get through a day without someone cracking some kind of joke. And they all thought they were soooo clever. It got really, really old.   It would be like naming your kid Madonna, they would never get away from it because the music association is so blatant.

And if you add Miles in there, they will really think you are a music icon nut!

    I like Leni, though!

     THANKS!

Hendrick/Hendrik is an option.  I just don't want baby to end up being called Henry or Rick.  Not that they are bad names, just not our style.

We discussed the Jimi reference tonight and its out.  As for others thinking its not honoring Henry, his grandfather, its kind of irrelevant as that would be the meaning WE were putting behind it.  When does anyone really guess that the name is to honor someone unless you tell them?  The Jimi thing is too much to make it worth it though.

As for why not just name the kid Henry, its just not our style.  I'm all about honoring someone but I like to add a tiny bit of individuality to it too.  Best of both worlds I guess.  If I don't like the name, I don't like it.  I dont dislike the person I'm naming them after, just their name :]  The same thing could be said about nick names. If you like the nick name, why not just name the kid that name.

When I first found Leni, I read it as "len-e" but then found the German origin

This is the site I found for pronunciation of Leni.  I was hearing it as "lee-nee"

    https://www.nordicnames.de/Aussprache.html

Felix isn't so bad, I think about Felix the cat though :P

Patton, Bowen, Blaise, Case, Wesson/Weston, Cash - these are not bad... just not what we're looking for.  The search continues!

I know a five year old named Hendrix. When his mom first started telling people, they tried to talk her out of using it. But the name totally fits him and I love his name! If you love it, use it. Nobody seems to bat an eye at all of the Marley's in the world. I was around this Hendrix all of the time (as I was his childcare provider) and I only recall one or two people saying "oh like Jimi?" ....nobody else seemed to care.

However Leni seems like a nickname to me.
