Graco snugride click connect 40

Any one have one of these? What do you think?

Re: Graco snugride click connect 40

  • I'd never heard of it so I googled. That's a pretty cool seat! The only concern I would have would be if it was heavier than your typical infant seat.

ETA: It's 2 pounds heavier than the snugride and the same weight as the snugride 35 so might not be all that bad!

  • 40!?! As in a 40lb weight limit?! I have to go check this thing out... although I have to say if it was I think it is then I wouldn't waste your money on it... it's just going to be big and bulky and the thought that you'll actually have a baby in an infant seat until they're 40lbs is ridiculous.

TEA: Just looked, I don't like it. My personal opinion.

That was my initial thought, too but I checked the weight of the seat by itself with the 2 most popular Graco Snugrides and it's not that bad. And since the AAP recommends ERF to age 2, this seat would mean longer before you have to buy a convertible.

The main downside is the cost. But you could do this seat and RF until 2 (this would fit my DS who turns 3 next month) and then switch to a FF only convertible which are much cheaper (and just as safe) as the RF/FF models.

True, M is in a RF convertible right now and I think we put her in it 3 or 4 months ago? But for the infant seat we'll be using and the convertible we purchased for her 9which we like so we'll probably get the same one) it will be the same cost as buying this 40pounder and a FF booster.

It is pretty cool though, I've never seen an infant seat that works like that!

  • yeah, I have a Britax Boulevard which is nice, but it's not what I would have chosen. We got it as a gift (well, DS did for Christmas) but they're like $300.

  • I had never heard of it either but today while getting a shower gift I saw it and it stood out to me. i am a Ftm so I am kinda lost on the whole car seat stroller thing.

  • Yeesh! We have a Graco My Ride 65 for M and it was only $150. So between that and the infant seat (the ones we like are $180-$190) it'll be about the same $$ as doing this Graco one and a good FF booster later on.

    Some unsolicited guidance ;)

Most mamas prefer an infant seat over starting off with just a convertible (the later choice is more cost efficient, but they don't always fit NBs well and infant seats are god sends for transporting sleepy LOs).

Normally (this Graco seat being an exception) all these 30lb infant seats are a waste of space/money/muscle power (they tend to be heavier by themselves) because LO's out grow them by length before weight.

When it comes to saving money with car seats, like I said before, convertibles are good money savers but not necessarily efficient for NBs. It's all about looking into future purchases and balancing all your options (like this Graco one followed by an FF simple booster or a normal infant seat with a RF/FF convertible later on).

Depending on your needs, what you'll want in a stroller will vary. For example we aren't big outdoorsy people so our strollers are mainly for walks on sidewalks/paved roads, shopping trips, zoo trips, museums and stuff like that. We also always use our stroller "on-the-go" so it's always collapsed and in the trunk if it's not in use (this is why like a bugaboo won't work for us because they're a pain to put together/take apart). We had a travel system with M and HATED it, we never used the stroller without the infant seat and it was massive and heavy and took up all of our trunk space. So this time we are opting for either the liteway plus w/ a keyfit car seat or a graco seat with the snap&go frame.

IDK if any of that helped but I figured it couldn't hurt :)

Everyone's needs and preferences are different.

For me, I stopped taking the infant seat out of the car when DS was about 2 months old. I couldn't grocery shop with it because once you put the car seat in the basket there's no room for groceries. We rarely ate out so the fact that it's convenient for eating out wasn't a big deal for us. Besides, DS always needed to be held.  By 4 months I had him in a convertible because it was easier to get him in and out of it than the infant seat.

I also never really used my infant seat with my stroller. I don't like the idea of baby being in that seat/position for long periods of time so I mainly kept it to car rides. I either wore DS or he rode in the stroller.

Most people stop taking the infant seat out of the car long before the child actually outgrows the seat. Also, most infants outgrow the seat in length before they do in weight. Because this one grows with the child, that wouldn't be as big of an issue.

There's really no way to tell what works for you and your baby until you're actually using your stuff. What works for one person isn't necessarily going to work for another person.

  • I didn't see a height limit on the Graco website - that would concern me. DS is around 95% for height, so their claim of using it for 2 years just doesn't seem feasible to me. He was out of the infant seat (a 30" limit) by around 10m because he has a long torso - he wasn't quite 30", but the straps didn't hit his shoulders correctly.

Also -- I'm assuming it must have some sort of newborn insert to support a smaller baby in a bigger seat. IDK - that is just such a wide range for it to cover (size-wise) that I'm skeptical.

  • I have to agree you won't keep them in until 40lbs my daughter is tiny and I took her out at about 17 pound 13 months to get her in a bigger one that she was more comfortable in, but if she had been happier in the snug ride I may have kept her in a little longer but she is 18 months and 20 lbs I think ours goes to 25 or 30 lbs there is no way id have her in it now....I actually put it in her room and she slept in it the other night cause of her coughing and she was almost bigger than it

  • We have a 35 and honestly, I don't think the 40 is necessary DD isn't anywhere near the weight limit, but she's right at the height limit. Also, I can't imagine hauling her in and out of that. The last time we were at my mom's when she was 10m, we caved and bought a convertible because she hated being on her back and wanted to sit up to look around.
