This is my third pregnancy but the first time I have been diagnosed with GD. I was diagnosed early (18 weeks) due to a history of insulin resistance. I meet with the diabetic educator next week and know for now that I will be checking my sugar 4 times a day and starting with diet. Just wondering what I can expect in regards to extra appointments and monitoring, etc. Also it seems like many moms with GD end up on bedrest. What symptom prompted your doctor to make the bedrest decision? I also have high blood pressure but have avoided pre-e in my past 2 pregnancies with medication, but forced me to deliver at 35 weeks with my second baby. Worried that the extra diagnosis of GD is going to lead to bedrest or an even earlier delivery this time. Would love to hear some of your experiences to prepare me and now what to look for.
thanks!
Re: Diagnosed with GD
I don't know many GD moms who've ended up on bed rest... in fact exercise is highly encouraged as it helps keeps your blood sugar in check (even things as simple as going for a walk).
I was very active with my 1st pregnancy with borderline GD and was still working out (weights/walking/swimming) up until my water broke at 37w.

I have never heard of increased risk for bed rest and was running up until 40 weeks 3 days when I went into labor.
You can probably expect some NSTs and ultrasounds towards the end. I didn't have any until I passed my due date, but this is not the norm and knowing what i know now, I would wish to have them earlier.
I'm on bedrest, but it's because of issues with a twin pregnancy, not GD. At 32 weeks I start getting 2 NSTs/week + one u/s, but that was already going to happen with twins anyway.
Once I figured out what foods work for me, and my overnight insulin dosage, managing my blood sugars hasn't been that bad.

Thanks ladies,
Hearing that makes me feel alot better about this. I work full time, i am taking classes and chasing my boys and was super stressed about getting taken out of the game. I was exercising before I got pregnant and then stopped so it certainly wont hurt me to start walking and exercising again. Thanks
