Setting up registry online v. In person

How long does it take to set up a registry in the store (specifically BRU) vs. online? I some things picked out already, and honestly itching to get rolling in registering. H is going to go with me when we do it in the store, but he's not very patient. To save time, and his patience, I'm thinking about setting things up online before we go I to the store. FWIW, we won't go for another couple weeks-after the anatomy scan.

In store seemed to be more fun (using the gun etc)

but other then the stuff you want to check out in person (stroller etc)

Online is so much easier, after over an hour in store I had about 10 items on my registry.

oh we'll definitely still go to the store, I'm just thinking about doing the initial set up online vs in the store.

  • We did a majority of ours online so that we could do research at the same time. Then I went to the store to add a lot of the small items and compare what was available online to what was actually available in the store. I am happy I did it this way because there were some things I wanted to add that were only online and I wouldn't have known unless I checked online first. I changed a few things (that I wasn't dead-set on) when I went to the store so there would be more in-store options for shower guests.

  • I already had a list of what I wanted and had already set up an amazon registry when we went to BRU but it only took us an hour. Our main goal was to add things that were actually carried in stock in our local store.

This was us. I used the Lucie's list guide and baby bargains as a starting point then spent quite a bit of time reading amazon reviews. I actually printed our amazon registry and brought it with me. Our BRU trip was to show DH a narrowed down list of bigger ticket items to pick between and to make sure the BRU registry had items actually available in the store.

  • My Amazon registry was already started, and I did the majority of my BBB registry online.  We went to the store for a few other things, and my H got so exhausted after just an hour that I was glad I had done the majority of registering online beforehand.

  • I researched big things like car seat, crib, etc first and registered online.  Then my hubby and I went in store.  And even after registering for a lot online (and spending hours researching)  we still spent about 2-3 hours in store registering.  BRU has so much stuff!  Its fun!  Its important to remember to register for everything!  Even if you are not sure because you will be offered a discount on items that are not purchased and you can always return items that were :)

    Have fun!

  • I did all my research in advance (Baby Bargains, reviews on Amazon) and made notes on a few favorites that I brought with me to the store for final decision making. It's amazing what seeing and trying something in person can do to your opinion of it. For example, many of the recommended items were gigantic and would not have fit our setup well. Or, you realize a feature is important to you (like how easy a stroller folds) that may not have been the deciding factor in the BB recommendation. While tedious, I'm really glad we went into the store for picking the larger items especially.

  • I would strongly recommend that you start your registry in the store.  My BRU and Target gave out gift bags for registering and because I registered online first, I wasn't eligible to get the freebies and coupons.  : )

Dammit, that sucks! I had heard they would let you get the bag if you went into the store after starting it online.

ETA: I have been doing a lot of online research  and actually have a lot of things picked out. We have actually been to the store a couple times to look at different things, and I've kept track of what we do and don't like. I just font want to push my luck with H in the store.

  • My suggestion for getting DH involved:  When you bring your DH to the store stick to one or two categories and ask him which he would like a say in.  For example, he may not care which sheets you register for but might want a say in baby gear.  Just ASK him and don't assume :)

And let him know in advance what the goals are.  "Today we'll look at the gear you said you were interested in and we'll need to chose a swing, baby carrier and PNP.  If you want to continue we can also look at bathing supplies.  Or we can be done, ok?"

And def start a registry online; you'll get coupons and free bags later....  And know that it is a process so good for you for getting started early.  Good luck!

I started mine online with BRU a couple of months ago and went in to the store to finish up about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I got the gift bag.

  • I initially did everything online--I did a lot of research and liked reading reviews so I picked the best items.  Then I went to the store (I did mine at Target) and printed out the registry and if something showed up as unavailable in my local store I would go to the baby section and see if maybe there was just a different color or something.  I did leave some on there that were available for online purchasing because over half of our family is far away and would be ordering online.

  • Online has reviews which can be good to look at.  But it was good to look at the items as well in the store.  And it is fun to go around the store and scan items.
