Poll - Not Crawling or pulling up?

I have no reason to be concerned, but I'm a mom now, so I worry about everything.  DD is just shy of 8 months.  She sits well on her own, can reach forward and then put her self back to seating upright, can reach side to side, turn, feeds herself puffs, moves toys back and forth from right to left hand, talks a ton, but when she is on her belly she fusses.  She has crawled backwards a few times, but she just seems so annoyed and frustrated by it.  She also won't ever go from seated to on her knees, or even attempt to pull herself  up.

We have plenty of time, and she isn't behind, but so many kids I know have crawled, pulled up, etc. by 8 months.  Also, so many on this board.  So, momma's of little ones who aren't crawling, please reassure me we are A-OK!

Thanks for listening to my crazy rant!

Re: Poll - Not Crawling or pulling up?

  • We just turned 8 months on Monday, and we are still not pulling up... He is doing the same stuff your LO is...

  • Crawling? We're not even rolling yet. She's done it probably....4 times and all I'm convinced were on accident.

  • DS1 had no interest in crawling or pulling up when he turned 8 months. He started pulling himself up by the end of 8 months. Took a step then fall down at the end of 9 months. Walked at 10 months. Sounds like your lo is doing great!
  • We are 8m 1d and not crawling. Lots of squiggling but not going anywhere. He can pull up but only with our hands- not helping him just staying in one spot for him. And he's only going backwards in his walker! It's driving me crazy (and he knows it and loves it)!

  • No crawling here either. LO turned 8 months on the 7th. I know we are still in the normal timeframe, but she seems behind because DD1 was crawling at 6 months. I'm not overly eager for her to be mobile though.
  • Not in this situation, but I wouldn't be concerned. When I asked my doctor about this at 6 months she said that several books have removed crawling as a milestone because there is such a large range when babies begin to crawl and some babies just go straight to walking. Don't worry. My lo prefers to roll everywhere anyway!

  • DD is a week past 8 months and still can only push herself backwards. She hasn't quite figured out how to use her knees yet. No signs of pulling up yet. Not worried at all.

  • No crawling or pulling up here.  He is 8 months.  I have a feeling he will start to experiment in the next few weeks.  My DD crawled at 7 months so I was a little worried too but now I know not too!

  • Thanks for all of the responses!  FTM and so unsure sometimes.

  • No worries....DD will be 8 months in another week and she is doing all the things your LO is doing. She hates being on her tummy and shows absolutely no interest in wanting to crawl. She sits fabulously though and adores standing (she is just starting to try and pull herself up by herself). FOr the first time this weekend she leaned forward from sitting and was almost on hands and knees.

I have had the same irrational fears as you. I remind myself that all babies develop at their own pace and DD is ahead verbally, with her fine motor skills and social skills like giving kisses and clapping.

  • O does the same and he is almost 9 months (but 4 weeks early)'. I have a feeling he will walk before crawling though.  Though if he was behind id never know because he is so far ahead of A.

  • My twins are 8 months old today and OP they are doing everything that your LO is doing, but they aren't pulling up or crawling either.  They are trying REALLY hard to crawl.  They can get up on all fours but then they look at me like "what the heck do I do now!?" and go back to their tummies.  I am obsessing about it as well.

They also still don't have a single tooth!
