Speaking of baby names

Mobile Bumpers: Speaking of baby names

(this post brought to you by BlinkMe's response in the "If I see one more post..." thread)

What are some names you've heard IRL that made you go "WT FThey can't be serious". Note I want REAL IRL names - none of that "Oranjello" crap.

Re: Speaking of baby names

  • There's a kid in Liam's class named Da.mire, I added the period so that this is ungoogleable. He's such a cute kid, but I'm pretty sure his name is completely made up.

  • I have two

1 - I was reading our local paper and came across a blurb about the first baby to be born at my hospital in 2013. His name is (wait for it) Jake-Obe. I am not even sure how you're supposed to pronounce it.

2 - As I was telling my brother about Jake-Obe, he told me about some students of his (he teaches French Lit in college). Her name is Alex-Sandra, which is of course pronounced Alexandra.

  • First I have a question. What does adding a . Har to do with making the name ungoogleable? Couldn't someone just take it out and type up the name if they really wanted to google it?

Second, I teach preschool and have had sone weird ones but Schuyler Skyler is by far the worst I have seen in awhile.

  • At my school we have a Y.ahtzee and an A.lcatraz. However, my personal favorite is Z.etaime which according to his mom means I love you in French. Um no. First of all....it's Je t'aime if I remember and secondly it's not a name either way.

The period means if someone were to Google the name, it wouldn't lead them to this board.

I believe she meant it the other way around. Like if the mom is googling her kid's name and this thread pops up.

  • When my sister was doing her student teaching there was a girl named "La-a." She assumed it was pronounced "La-ah" and that was how she referred to her. When she met the mother, she found out the girl's name was actually "La-Dash-a."

Ha Ha! I believe the liquor takes its name from the Japanese word for "green" (which also is Midori). Not sure what they were going for there (liquor or colour), but I would still hate them if they were my parents. lol

I am teaching a little girl to swim and her name is La-a. I think it was an urban legend at one point in time but now it's a name. ::facepalm::

  • At a children's camp I helped at one summer, there was a kid named TheOne - pronounced "the one."

Yeah... Guess which kid was always up and out of his seat and getting called at from across the room? TheOne.

And a teacher friend of mine had a kid named "The Fonz." She asked permission to call him "Fonzie."

There is a baby at DD's daycare whose name is C.ashlyn. I'm not exactly sure if that is how it's spelled but it's how it sounds. C.ash-Lynn. Weird, right?

H jokes that the name was inspired by Ke$ha.

I have a friend whose nephew is named Cashlin. I think they call him Cash.
