After reading the post about spending freezes I realized that it seems a lot of you make some good money. Answer if you want or even just an estimate.
What do you do? what does DH do? What is your/DH's annual salary?
Maybe its because we are a single income family but I feel we are in the lower class compared to most of you ladies.
Re: Income : Annual Salary
HOLY CRAP Can i move in?? lol
I never knew you were a teacher! What do you teach?

In Iowa 50,000 is definitely a decent income. Our living expenses are so much cheaper compared to other areas. Our house was well under $100,000.
I know how you feel, mrsgabus. I'm pretty sure we make significantly less than others. To make over $100,000 a year where I live though you would be considered wealthy. Dh would like us to make more, but I don't feel like life is a contest about who can accumulate the most wealth and coolest stuff. I am okay right now where we are at. He would like more cool stuff. I am by no means saying that if you make a lot of money or if that is your goal that it's bad thing, it's just not what I am looking for out of life right now. If making money makes you happy, by all means, do it!

I am an operations manager at a major retailer and dh works for custom pumping company (small business). Combined we make between $75,000 and $80,000 (I think).
Assuming you've been teaching for a decent amount of time before SAH, I bet it'll come back to you quickly!! GL getting back into the groove and "meeting" your class.

I work part time as a cake decorator (20 hours a week) and I make about 15k a year. MH is in computer storage and makes around 70k and the occasional bonus.
I think it is hard to compare incomes without also looking at cost of living too. Here is a map that shows median income.

Dude, that actually made me feel better about myself.
Yeah, he's pretty great. He tries so hard, but life keeps beating us down. If I went out and had to put the kids in daycare, it would take most of my salary. There's no point to that. Right now we are surviving just fine, but man I'm so sick of surviving. I'm jealous of all you guys who can save money. I'm so proud of how hard my DH works for us. I just wish it wasn't so hard.
I'm a SAHM with a small little biz that really only helps us with major tax write offs and fun money for me and the kid. DH probably makes 100k/year, and we have a lot of "non-liquid" assets such as farm land, etc.
I don't feel rich, but I feel like we are okay.
When I did work, I made about 30k per year. I do small photo jobs too and work for FiL if he needs help in his lab, so that brings in about 5k10k and I still do it.
We are doing well. Ottawa is pretty expensive though. Out townhouse was 213k. On the other hand, the market here is pretty stable and that is a good thing.

Wow, looking at the other teachers' salaries I am getting ripped off! I have a Masters and only make $32,000 a year. DH is a probation officer and makes around $30,000 a year. He has awesome insurance though. His, DD's and my insurance is fully paid through his job. So that's worth a lot of money. Our house is less than $100,000 too and we live in a low cost area as well. We have been horrible with money though, but we want to start putting more in savings this year.
ETA: I realize the other teachers who posted live in areas where COL is more, but I never realized how much less teachers make in my state.

wow!!! Our property tax was like $750. That's a house and 4 acres!
My cousin lives in N Babylon and she pays a ton in taxes too. I live less than 2 hrs from her and we pay $6000+ in property tax alone. $300,000 was what we paid for our 3 bdr house on .25 acres. We pay through the roof for utilities too. $100+ a month just to run basic electric, and we don't have electric heat! Sometimes I wish we could move, but our house isn't worth sh!t right now and we would lose too much.
H works at a grocery store and I am a full-time student.
We live in a higher than average COL area in CA (our city is 37% higher than the national average according to Penny's link), and we make between 50 and 75% of the area's median income.
We are not comfortable. We don't make enough to save most months. However, we have good cheap health insurance, our rent is lower than average for the area, we have no car payments, and no debt.
My future earning potential is a pretty wide range, so we'll see. I'll leave school with below average student loan debt (about $15,000).
I am an Instructional Designer working in the technology field. MH is a gym teacher at a middle school. Combined we make about $165,000 +/- my bonuses. We live in the mid-atlantic. Rather average. As a comparison: A salary of $165,000 in Wilmington, Delaware should increase to$273,221 in New York, New York
The last few years have been good to us since my company was acquired and our stock options bought out at almost 2x what they were worth. Without that, we would not have been able to reduce our debt and buy a bigger home.
Now that those benefits are gone, we live well on what we make and I probably spend way too much... but we do ok.
We still have our old home which has an under water mortgage so we rent it out. Sadly, our renter sucks. But some money coming in is better than none. I'm just worried about what will happen when baby 2 comes and needs daycare. We cannot afford 4 mortgages (2 for homes and 2 for daycare).
We live in a high cost of living area. I make around $90k as a program analyst for the federal govt and DH makes about $25k working in logistics for IKEA. He was doing some personal training on the side, but has started school (to be a phys ed teacher and coach). We live in a tiny $300K house. I could always do with more money, but as we stand now, we live comfortably and although we can't afford many vacations or expensive things, we don't have the time or desire for them.
Our goal this year is to be able to save anything (aside from our retirement that comes right our of our checks).
