I had GD during my last pregnancy. When they told me I was GD, and I realized that meant that I was high risk, I flipped out. They told me that I would get a NST every week and that I would not be allowed to go over my due date. I worried that these interventions would ruin my natural birth.
After lots of walking (trick or treating with my niece and nephew) I went into labor November 1st, one week before my due date. 5 hours later, we had a beautiful baby boy and I became a hypnobirthing success story.
For this pregnancy, I had to take my 3 hour glucose early since I had GD during my first pregnancy. I read that walking between the blood draws can help your body process the glucose. I figured, it can't hurt. The doctor called today and my glucose levels were NORMAL! I'm so excited! This is an early victory and I HOPE that the GD stays away during this pregnancy.
Moral of the story, GD does not end your chances of natural childbirth, so don't freak out like I did! And, if you are looking for something to do to reduce your chances, walking MAY help. It might also be a wives tale and a coincidence, but I'm sure glad I got out of that waiting room for some fresh air and exercise!
Re: Victory! No Gestational Diabetes after this 3 hour test
I had a very similar story to yours. GD with my first, told I couldn't go past my due date, was afraid I wasn't going to have the natural delivery I wanted. Luckily, I had my son before my due date with almost no intervention.
I had to do my 3 hour glucose test early this time around, and I found out on Monday that I passed! Hallelujah!
Congrats to you as well.
