Follicle growth?

Does anyone around here have experience with monitored IUI? I will be taking clomid days 3-7 and then day 11 going in for an u/s to see follicle growth. I didn't think to ask at my last appointment but does anyone know how long it typically takes to get to the 2cm?

We did this exact protocol only we went in on CD 12 and found that I had 3 follicles that would probably reach maturity. Due to this we went back in on CD 14 to check them one more time. They were looking for any over 18mm. On that u/s we found that we had two at that mark and two more that could get there so they had me trigger on CD 15 and IUI on CD 16 36 hours after trigger. I believe they grow about 1 to 2 mm per day but I am not really sure. Also they will keep growing until they are released through ovulation or absorbed back in.

Like I said, am not sure how fast they grow but with the u/s check on CD 11 your RE will know when you bring you back for another growth check or if to go ahead and set your trigger based on their size.

Thank you, this was very helpful! I'm still a few weeks away from that - I started 10 days of Prometrium Monday night - but I just wanted to get a feel for what I could expect. I go in CD 11 for the u/s and go back until they like what they see basically. I'm hoping for an insem date around the last week of the month.

Also, I just wanted to say I'm sending positive thoughts that your little ones decide to bake a little longer! I'm glad you were released from L&D. Keeping you, M & the boys in my thoughts!

The nurse at my RE's office told me you usually ovulate 5-7 days from your last Clomid pill. I had a poor response to Clomid, so that wasn't true for me.

I think my plan is a little different. We are waiting for the follicle growth and then doing a trigger shot so we should (hopefully!) know when I ovulate.

Yes, that's what we were doing. But your follicles reach mature size right before your body is going to ovulate on its own, so the timing is pretty much the same whether you're triggering or ovulating naturally.

If your follicles don't grow on Clomid, then you aren't going to ovulate and it is considered a poor response to the drug. You would likely try a different drug for the next cycle. For the present cycle, your RE could either double-dose you (have you take 5 more days of Clomid and come back after that to see if they're growing) or give you Provera to make you get your period so you can start a new cycle.
