co-sleeping and travel away from baby

My DD has been spending most nights with me lately, as she's going through a big growth spurts and is teething.  Daddy tries to soothe her but she only wants me.  I'm supposed to do an overnight in a couple weeks for work and I'm getting nervous about leaving her with DH to take care of bedtime and possible night wakings.  If you've spent a night away from your baby, how did it go?  What should I do to get both DH and DD ready for me to be gone?

  • Honestly, every time I've been away Ro has been absolutely 100% fine. She seems to understand that I am the best, best, best person when I am there, but that she loves Daddy and Grammy and Umma too and they will do if I can't be there. I started working a few nights a week when she was 10 months old and she has always gone down fine and stayed asleep fine.

  • I am wondering the same thing - my daughter is 13 months, and has not been sleeping well lately at all. In February, I will be leaving her with my parents for a nearly a week while I go to a work conference. I have no idea how it will go! Eek

  • DD has always done surprisingly well with DH. I always make sure to leave some clothes to smell like me. When she started to get upset he'd whip those out; he said they always helped.

  • My DH travels a ton, so DS1 is used to him being gone, but I joined hubby on a 2 night business trip last month & left DS1 for the 1st time overnight.  He LOVED staying at Grandad & Nana's, and handled it like a champ, but we've been dealing with a new wave of separation anxiety- especially at night- ever since.  We did record a few messages on an iPhone of us telling him we love him & me singing his favorite lullaby.  Nana said he watched them over & over in the evenings.  We also facetimed with him each day & called to say goodnight, and we left a "thinking of you card" with stickers inside for him to open after we left.  I left his favorite meals prepped & a sample schedule, so he was following his regular routine, too.  He said he loved it, and thoroughly seemed to. However, he had a hard time falling asleep the following 2 weeks & was very wakeful once he would fall asleep.  I'm sure DH & DD will do fine, just be aware of (and patient with!) signs of separation anxiety upon your return.
