gift ideas for 3 yr old girl when you dont really know her...

My daughter was invited to a party for her classmate (from her school)- we cannot make it but I wanted to give her a gift anyway since I appreciate the gesture.

We dont know this little girl or her family so what kind of general gift do I get? I know what my daughter likes but that might not be what this little girl is into?

THANKS :)

  • You might ask the teacher if there is anything she knows the girl really likes.  I think Duplo blocks and craft supplies are usually "safe" gifts- most kids like this stuff, and even if they already have it, it's the kind of thing you will still use.

  • Good idea re the teacher, maybe the girl brings certain things for show & tell or wears clothes w/ something...I think Hello Kitty is safe for that age also- it is a character so I suppose the super ultra anti character ppl would go crazy but it isn't princess or anything like that & I think there is a lot of cute stuff... also just keep an eye out for what she is wearing, maybe accessories for her hair if it looks like she wears those, or crafts like pp said. Melissa & Doug sticker books, lace & trace cards, an age appropriate game (we love Zingo at our house), etc. Or just something your LO likes & give the mom a gift reciept.
  • I'd go with art supplies. Crayola is usually a safe bet

    Art supplies

  • I like the idea of art supplies, or even a bunch of bath things.  Bath crayons, fizzy balls, paints, bubbles, glow sticks, shaving cream, etc.
  • PlayDoh, Crayola, MoonDough, etc.

  • Maybe I'm weird but I would not want more crayola products or play doh for my kids...I have tons already and esp do not want more play doh (I'm not a huge fan & my kids arent really either). In terms of craft stuff, I think some kind of planned project (like a crown painting kit or jewelry making or what have you) would be better since most ppl already have the basic crayons/markers/play doh. Same price, just less likely to be something someone has.

It is the the though that counts & I don't even think gifts are necessary and my kids have actually never had a bday party w/ other kids partly b/c of the gift obligation ppl feel (awkward w/ twins) so don't interpret this as picky about gifts, just that in my own gift giving, I try not to give things I think someone might already own a bunch of.

  • I got my daughters classmate little petshop pets with a little car..I then had to get it for my daughter for Christm

  • I would get her little pet shop pets...my daughter loves them!! And they have little cars for them. I too would not want any more art stuff. Books r also a great idea!
