So I noticed on my online account that my first OB appointment was coming back as being all my responsibility(!?) Figured it was either a coding error or someone forgot a referral number or something dumb. Also had a couple of coverage questions, so I decided to call my insurance company today.
My goals were to 1. Sort out what happened with that first claim and 2. Get a written list or pamphlet or SOMETHING that said what the maternity benefits/ what's covered are other than the stupid copay. From what I've seen, many insurance companies have a little "Congrats! Your pregnant!" pamphlet that outlines what special things they offer. Never got anything like that with mine (Anthem Blue Cross HMO)
Results? I explained how I wanted to know what's covered and not to 2 different people. All I got was a pdf that had the exact same info on copay (did you not understand my question!?) and referred to a different person who could answer specific questions. When I asked if a doula was covered, he said "let me look that up" (let me have that document you're looking it up on!) and told me no. But I did ask about breast pumps and I guess they do cover them for me, if I get the preauthorization and note from my OB.
I got the other claim cleared up too - someone didn't include the preauthorization # on the claim. So that's being taken care of.
Still - I can't believe I have to look into a crystal ball, as a FTM anticipate what I will need and call to see if it's covered every time. I'm sure they don't want to offer up that info in a handy pamphlet so people won't know that it's available to them. Grrr!
Ok. I know this is somewhat hormone induced, so I'll stop.

Lame sauce. I hate it when they aren't helpful! I have Kaiser and they are super nice but my particular office is a little disorganized - drives me nuts!
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
