Anyone else not thinking a theme nursery?

I'm still not decided on what to do with our nursery, but I'm leaning towards not doing any real theme..except some boy colors, and boy decorations.  Seems like most everyone now is doing a theme.  What are you all doing for baby boy?

  • I am not doing a theme per se but am using specific colors and I am having a girl so can't help with a boy!

  • I can't do too much of a theme, because we are renting the house so we can't re-paint or anything. But the wall is a ...toupe-ish color. So it'll be easy to match with pale greens and some other similar colors.

Browse pinterest. Even the rooms that are FULLY themed down to the diaper pails, you can pull ideas from each and every room that coordinate together.

    Also, to add:

I plan to keep it semi gender neutral. At least most of the equipment (crib, sheets, car seat, stroller, etc) because I want to be able to be as "fully stocked" as i can when we have more kids. I'll be more gender specific when it comes to clothes and other cheaper things that many people will gift (at the shower, etc).

  • I am not doing a theme exactly.  We painted our nursery really dark gray and white (two walls of each) and one of the white walls has a strip of chalkboard paint down the middle.  Then we are adding a bunch of green, turquoise and orange accents.  We figured if we do this again, we can swap out the accents, replace with girl-y colors and call it a day.

For me, blatant themes are just NMS.  I know it looks really cute, but I just do not want a baby jungle theme room in my home.

  • We're team green and we're keeping it very gender neutral. I found a fun fabric from ikea which looks like someone doodled with black paint on white fabric. Our crib is a modern gray color and my partner is refinishing an antique dresser and painting it bright yellow. We'll paint one wall aqua.

We're just not a big fan of matching sets.

  • I am not a "theme" kinda gal. Plus she will share a room with DS. His walls are aqua with white woodwork so I'm doing aqua, white, and yellow bedding with a white crib and adding some coral touches here and there on the baby side. Last time with DS we didn't do a theme, but teh art/bedding all had animals on it- all different kinds so it did end up being sort of a casual animal theme. I just don't care for matchy matchy stuff.

I'm a big fan of Ebay for used stuff (I got a Pottery Barn crib sheet in great condition for 10 bucks) and Etsy is my all time favorite website for vintage and handmade stuff. I'm getting my crib skirt made through etsy!

  • Definitely not doing a really themey nursery, might be some touches here and there.  As pp said, Pinterest is great and I just recently found projectnursery.com.  Great website!

  • I'm not doing much of a theme, but baby will have a lot of retro animals in his room. (We've got a rabbit lamp from the '70s, some felt animals and a white ceramic squirrel so far.) Our office is already painted a dark teal, so we will be leaving it that color. The crib we've picked out is gray, and we're going to repaint the dresser and bookshelf that are already in there red. We've got a few animal prints, record covers and band posters that are animal-related to frame, and I hope to find a rug I like that matches everything. We're having our crib sheet and skirt made more to match the teal/gray/red combination than the "animal" theme. We're making our mobile out of origami animals, and will probably track down an antique quilt for looks, not use.

The room would have been the same if baby was a girl, so it's pretty gender neutral.

Look on Pinterest. Just search "Boy nursery" and you'll find ideas galore.

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.

  • We're not really doing a theme. I have a few giraffe prints that I will be hanging in the room, but that's the extent of it.

  • I'm not doing a theme.  We don't know the gender yet but the room is green with beige carpet.  We will just girl it up or boy it up when we know the gender in a few weeks.  I think it's more fun for the child to pick a theme when they are older so it is pure "them" and not what we want them to like!  My DS had a blue room and he picked the theme of the movie Cars for his room when he was 3.  Now that he is 8, he has a John Deere room.

Pinterest ;) I live on that site! Yes, we don't have a theme or anything yet and I'm not sure that we will outside of just light green.

  • I don't think our nursery will have a theme either.  We are going to try to do gender neutral whether we have a boy or girl.

  • I'm not exactly sure what we'll be doing, either. We still have a lot of work to do to get ready to work on the room, right now it's my husbands 'man den' and we need to move everything out into the living room (where my brother is residing, so we can't until he finds his own place), drywall, tape & mud, paint, add a window and lights. Than we're planning on putting new carpet down and some curtains. I have no idea if we'll 'theme' anything as we don't know the sex yet. We might. I'm just hoping the nursery is done, and bright and clean before the baby arrives. Otherwise we'll be using our bedroom until it's ready for LO. Somehow my dh's man den stuff is going to need it's own space, we don't have enough room for it otherwise. We'll have to do an addition sometime in the spring. My nesting instincts are starting to drive me crazy, I just want to start on this nursery but there are so  many other things that need to be done before we can get to it. Ah well, that's half the fun :)

  • I don't like super themed rooms. I go with a color scheme and decorate that way.

  • For an endless supply of nursery pictures with parameters that you set, go to Houzz.com. If you have an iPad get the Houzz app, it's free and so easy to use. Once you register, you can save the pictures you like and draw inspiration from them. The website and app are for any room in the house plus landscape and architecture for all things home. We just built our house last year and it was such a great help. Have fun with it.
  • I wouldn't say we are doing a theme, but we do have a color scheme of grey, white and turquois. Wall decor will be different things that fit in with those colors.

  • I don't want a them either. My husband loves the bed in a bag, super babyish, very themed rooms and its just not my style. I'm hoping we can go more of an a la carte route and free on something this weekend.

  • For ds1 we didn't do a theme just colors and designes we liked. We went with navy and white with baby blue accents. The patterns were chevron and polka dots. Chevron rug and bedding. Wall art was a mix of the 2 patterns with throw pillows on his couch in those patterns. His curtains and floor length navy and white stripes. Its a roon that will grow with his and not baby or cutesy.

  • I'm not doing a theme.  Never really liked that... as the child grows up I think the theme thing wears out a little.

I've been searching Pinterest for ideas.  I think I've decided on grey walls, white furniture, mostly neutral colors with a little pop of lime green and coral.

Pinterest has also been for ideas on where to get things.   A lot of pictures lead you to websites where the owner posts links for the items.  Even if you don't get the exact same thing you know where to search.

  • My DH really REALLY wants a Lion King theme. It's not my favorite idea, but he doesn't have a ton of opinions on things so I'm going with it.

    That sounds adorable!

We didn't do a theme in DDs room. We just used colors from the sheets I liked to accent the room.
