Having trouble deciding on a double stroller. Right now, we are a 3 stroller family. It was recommended to us to buy the travel system when we were pregnant, and since we had no experience, that's exactly what we did. It was horrible, I think we used the travel system stroller under 5 times. It was big, bulky, heavy and didn't fit into the trunk of my car.
Fast forward to DS being able to support his head and sit on his own and we bought a Bob stroller. We love it. We take it on the majority of walks in the neighborhood, or if we know we are going someplace that we may have to walk on more uneven terrain. We also have a cheap $20 umbrella stroller that we keep in my trunk for quick trips, malls, and that we take with us when we travel. Because honestly, who cares if baggage claim ruins or loses my $20 stroller.
I think I've narrowed down our stroller options to the Bumbleride Indie Twin and the Maclaren Twin Triumph. The Bumbleride would completely replace our Bob and we would be able to use it right away, because it's carseat compatible. But it has a steeper price tag, it's heavier, and it takes up way more space. The Maclaren is light weight, much cheaper, and still has most of the features we like. Plus it folds up much smaller. But it's not carseat compatible, it's not all terrain (which I'm honestly not sure how much that would matter since our neighborhood is paved), and has 2 separate handles, so no one handed pushing.
I think if this baby was due in the Fall and I had several months before we started spending time outdoors, I would probably hold off until the baby was older and just get an umbrella stroller. But I'm due in April. Which is right before we start having weather nice enough to go outside. Our nice season is going to be the first 5 months of this baby's life, so the car seat adapter is a pretty big feature to give up. DS1 will be 2y8m when this one arrives. So I'm looking for something that's going to work well with a newborn and also work well with a toddler.
Any advice on what's worked the best for you? I would love to hear about how these 2 strollers work IRL or if you have a double stroller you just love that I haven't mentioned. DH and I are both really tall, so a lot of the smaller/mini strollers are just too short on us. Especially if it doesn't have the adjustable hand bar. For those of you that have both an all terrain and an umbrella, which do you find yourselves using more? TIA!
Re: Bumbleride Indie Twin vs Maclaren Twin Triumph (Long, sorry)
Thank for you the feedback! I think I'm leaning towards the BIT. I think the Maclaren is considered safe for newborns also. It lays completely flat. I'm worried about the practicality of having it as our main stroller when I can't fasten a carseat into it though. If I'm running into the mall and the baby is sleeping in his carseat, do I really want to wake him up just to refasten him in? DS outgrew his infant carseat at 5 months though, so this may really be an issue for the first 5 months. After that it may be nice to have a lighter, smaller stroller. I also don't know how smooth the Maclaren is for use on pavement or long walks. The park we like to walk to is about a mile away. We always use our Bob for that because our current umbrella stroller just wouldn't cut it on a 2 mile walk/run.
You fill me!!! Z! My BFP Chart
The Baby Jogger City Mini Double or City Mini GT double might work well for you.
I don't own either stroller, but have looked at them longingly at the store and tried them out with my twins in the store.
I would skip the Maclaren twins. I have done a ton of stroller research and the general consensus is that the singles are awesome but the doubles do not push well. You are probably going to end up with 2 "double" strollers unless you don't mind taking the Indie in and out of the car. Since your older one is quite a bit older, I would get the Indie Twin and then maybe get a rider board for your umbrella stroller. That way your older one doesn't have to walk if he doesn't want to. If you end up needing a smaller double, you could consider the Bready.
I would definitely do the Indie Twin - it's a great stroller with a ton of features. If your oldest one is a big kid, you could also look at the Valco Tri Mode Twin.
