DS2 is 7 months old and is still sleeping in my room. I thought for sure this month I would try having him sleep in his own room at night but just a couple weeks shy of him turning 7 months he started waking up in the middle of the night. I'm a little apprehensive to put him in his own room now because it's across the house from ours. I do have really good baby monitors but I am still scared that for whatever reason I wont hear him or they might stop working while I'm sleeping and I wont have a clue. Does anyone have any advice for getting him to sleep through the night?? And what month did you put your LO in his/her own room to sleep?? DS1 is 7 years old so I feel like I am a new mom all over again HELP!!!
Re: Baby in their own room??
LO has been in his own room since we came home from the hospital. He's 3 doors down from our room and we just leave the doors open. We've always awakened on his cries (normally I wake before my husband wakes). I think there's something ingrained in the moms that helps them be attuned to their baby crying.
As for STTN, we did Ferber and it worked for us. It took 4 days. First night sucked, but after that it got progressively better.
We put DS in his own room within the last week. Was very apprehensive about sleep training him in his own crib. But, he has been doing great! Just do what feels right and comfortable for you. Personally if it was me, and his room was so far away where I won't hear him, I would just wait till he is sleeping through the night before putting him in his room.
With both girls, they were in their room since the day they came home from the hospital.
What did it for us for STTN (mainly for getting them to fall asleep by themselves at night when we first put them down) was Ferber.
Good luck!
ETA: if you have a really good monitor like you say you do, just turn it up to the loudest it will go. I guarantee you that you will hear him if he starts crying.
If DD2 is just fussing in the middle of the night, we usually give her a little bit to see if she resolves it on her own. Most of the time in about 15-30 minutes she is able to put herself back to sleep.

I planned to keep DS in our room til 6 months. Around 3 months, DH put DS in his crib one night just to see if he'd like it and we all slept so much better so he stayed there. Since DH initiated it, he gets up and brings DS to me for motn feeding.
DH is traveling this week and he normally wakes up first when DS cries so I was worried I woudln't hear him and put him in his pnp which is still set up in our room. It was horrible, I could hear every noise he was making and felt like I couldn't move so after his motn feeding, I put him back in his crib.
Thank you for all the advice everyone!!! I think I have been just putting this off for to long and it is time he sleeps in his own room. DH and I had set his crib up in our room when he was 2 months because his room was just to far away and he hated his bassinet. I haven't yet let him try to fall asleep on his own yet because he is way to loud and DH has to get up early in the AM for work and feeding him is just the easiest way to get him back to sleep. I told DH this afternoon that I think we should try this weekend to get DS2 in his room and he is just so excited and promising to listen to the monitor also. He is my last baby so it's just tough to let him "grow up" lol. I will post how everything goes thanks again!!
We napped our baby in the PnP in our room and in his crib in the nursery from birth. By two months he was starting the night in our room (he went to bed before us). Then when he woke up at 3am for a feeding, he would finish the night in the nursery because he's noisy falling back to sleep and DH couldn't fall back asleep. By 3 months he spent the whole night in his room. We have a small house so we don't even have a monitor.
We all three sleep better when he's in his own room.
