Standing in sleep sack?

We put our LO in a sleep sack at night.  Now that he's started pulling to standing in his crib, I worry that his feet will get tangled up in his sleep sack and he'll end up falling and hitting his head.  Is this a legitimate fear?  Did you stop using the sleep sack once LO could stand in the crib?

Re: Standing in sleep sack?

  • I can't say much about (my LO isn't standing yet) but I do know at least one person who continued to use the sleep sack even after child had become a toddler.

  • Our LO can stand in his crib, but for some reason doesn't seem inclined to do so in his sleep sack yet. He might sit up sometimes, but so far hasn't tried standing while in the sleep sack.
  • Eh, he is going to fall anyway because he'll be unsteady on his feet and holding on with his hands.  I don't see him trying to catch himself from falling with his feet when he loses balance.  And I don't see he feet getting really tangled until he tries to walk which isn't going to happen right away.

I'm a FTM with a 6 mo old so take the above for what it's worth.  But that is what my analytical mind tells me.

  • Once our LO could pull himself up we took him out becuase he HATED being in there because he couldn't stand or crawl enough. I can tell you without the sleep sack he falls all the time and hits his head, but is always fine.  I do have a friend that has a 2 year old that still uses the sleep sack and she loves it because it reduces movement. Our LO is way to hyper to have any restriction on his movements. I wouldn't worry about him bumping his head though. That will happen regardless.
  • my little man stands up with his sleep sack still on. and he walks around the edge.

  • Both of my first 2 boys were in sleepsacks for a long time.  DS2 slept in a Halo sleepsack until he was over 2yo.  He did move into the ones with footholes at some point after his 1st birthday, but we never noticed him having any troubles walking in either. And really, it's pretty little walking since mosting he only had the sleepsacks on when he was in his crib.
