Dominican Republic? or other carribean trip location?

I think I remember a few ladies who talked about having gone to Dominican and other carribean islands recently.

We are thinking of booking a week-long trip for next month and I'm totally overwhelmed with all the locations and hotels available!

Does anyone have any recommendations for what part to go to in Dominican(la romana, punta cana, etc.) or any hotels that you liked there?  We are kinda leaning towards this just because there are so many all-inclusive places to choose from.

If you have been to another island/area, what was it and would you recommend?

I am checking out tripadvisor, but it's crazy trying to sort through so many options and reviews.

  • Ive been to Punta Canta but no where else so nothing to compare

They drive like nuts over there but it was very pretty.  We had a nice week and we went in hurrican season.

  • We went to Grand Cayman and stayed at the Marriott Resort on 7 mile beach for our honeymoon.  It was awesome.  But I also don't have anything to compare to, that's the only place I've been in the Caribbean.

    Sounds fun, I'm jealous!

  • I've never been to DR, but hear amazing things and would love to go one day!

I've been to the bahamas, turks and caicos, and aruba. All were great - Aruba would be my favorite I think but Turks a close second - the water is just inbelieveavle. I stayed at Club Med there - adults only, I was in a wedding there. I think there are probably much nicer places but for the price it was the best vacation ever.

  • Hi, I been lurking for a couple of days but decided to reply to your post since I'm from the Dominican Republic and have visited a couple of different resorts the last couple of years. I would say it depends on what type of vacation are you planning on having. Punta Cana is a huge turisty area which tons of things to do and hotel options. We went last April and stayed at the Barcelo Premium Punta Cana and had a great time. The staff was really nice and the hotel was well kept. However next time we go to Punta Cana we are going to go all out and plan on staying at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino which is the newest hotel in the area.

I'm actually going to the DR next week and we are planning a short baby moon in Samana. I was overwhelm looking at the hotels in the area even though there aren't as many options as there are in Punta Cana. But I think we are going to end up staying at one of the Bahia Principe chain hotels. I believe they also have hotels in the Punta Cana Area. I have read great reviews about the chain so you might also want to look into it.

Whatever you end up choosing try not to stress too much during the planning and I hope you enjoy your vacation!

  • I'm from Puerto Rico :) so of course I'm gonna tell you that Puerto Rico is awesome hahahaha . Now seriously, you could ask me anything. You can PM and I can tell you what you could do here, some of the best places. I live quite near the turistics areas. I can tell upfront that we have one of the most beautiful beaches in the world Playa Flamenco in the municipality island of Culebra. That beach is in the top 10 beaches around the world.

  • I know my friends who have gone to the Domincan have loved it.

I've been to Burmuda. It was beautiful but I was 15 so I don't know much about the adult stuff there. Jamaica was disappointing.  It wasn't awful but in comparison to most beaches, theirs were small and smelly.

I would go back to Cancun in a heartbeat. Aside from the beauty and the location, the locals were really really friendly and it wasn't too expensive to do everything we wanted.

  • I've been to Punta Cana and my mom went to LaRomana every year for several years. We stayed at the Riu Palace Macao. It was nice.

We stayed at Sandals Grande in St. Lucia when I was pregnant. Really nice there. We were not impressed with Sandals. Don't get me wrong it was nice. But it is WAY overpriced.

I wouldn't leave the resort at either place unless I was going to a wellknown tourist area. I refused to leave the resort in DR. I was too scare based on what I saw on the ride to the resort.
