Anyone else NOT leaking?

Sorry for all of the questions today (it has obviously slowed down at work) but I have seen some posts about some women leaking colostrum lately. Last night, I checked to see if anything would come out and NADA.

I never checked with my first but I did have supply issues at the beginning. I didn't really get any milk in until 5-7 days post partum. So should it worry me that I'm completely dry right now? Anyone else NOT experience any leaking?

Re: Anyone else NOT leaking?

  • I'm not. At least, not that I've noticed. This is my 3rd baby though, and I'm leaking less with each one so far. (Baby #1: leaked like crazy around 5 months, Baby #2: leaked some, but not as early or as much, & Baby #3: none at all so far) No supply issues with either of my first 2 though.

  • No droplets or wet spots. I did notice crusty nips once or twice which I think may have been tiny bits of dried colostrum, but i really have no idea.

  • I've never had any leaking during any of my pregnancies.  I ended up with a HUGE surplus of frozen milk with DS1 and couldn't keep up with DS2 so I had to supplement with formula.  I don't think leaking during pregnancy is going to be an indicator of future milk supply.

Just get your baby latched on ASAP after birth and drink lots of water.  If worse comes to worse you can ask your doctor about Reglan that helps amp up the milk production.

Is that what that is?! This is really gross and TMI but last night, when I was checking, there was some crust I was able to pull off.

Sorry if I just grossed you out by sharing that. It grossed me out!

  • Nope! I didn't realize so many people were experiencing the leaking already! This is my first so maybe that's why. I've tried to see if anything would come out and mine won't either. I've noticed tiny crystals a few times, but it could have just been dry skin. My MIL told me she would actually squirt when she was in the shower... so I hope everything works out!

I always pick the crust off if it doesn't hurt.. I haven't had any real leaking this time so far, but I have noticed some residue inside my bra at the end of the day, which makes me think SOMETHING is going on with them, but it's not enough to be a concern.

  • Not yet! I have been wearing a super supportive bra all day and sports bras every night because I don't want to start leaking yet! Haha!

I didn't start leaking colostrum with DD until the last month or so.

Is Reglan prescription? What exactly is it?

I didn't have problems with milk production once the milk finally came in.

Since I had no production the first couple of days post partum and DD was ravenous and miserable (and so was I), we caved and gave her formula bottles. By the time my milk came in, DD knew that the bottle meant no work and mama's boobs meant too much work so she wanted nothing to do with me. So I pumped away and gave her my BM in a bottle.

I really hope that things are different this time and I am able to breastfeed.

Reglan is a prescription.  I believe it is normally prescribed for stomach issues?  I discovered it after DS1 was born and my milk did NOT come in.  I felt like such a failure and researched and found that Reglan is known to increase milk supply.  I asked my OB about it and he prescribed it to me.  It worked!!  As I mentioned before, I ended up with so much extra milk that I was able to pump for DS1 for 12 months and then had enough for another month or so of breastmilk after I stopped pumping.  For me, it was a life saver as I had put so much pressure on myself to provide breastmilk to my son.

I didn't have any side effects from the prescription, but obviously talk to your doc about it.

It sounds like it to me. When I leaked with DD1, it would usually turn a little crusty as it dried. If it got a big enough spot on my shirt wet, it would even harden and stick to me if I wasn't able to change clothes before it dried. Not the greatest thing in the world, but not the worst either. Luckily, it washes out of clothes really easily! :)

    I definitely will - thanks!!

p.s. I'm glad I'm asking these questions, I feel like I'm learning so much today! However, should I know all of this already being that I am a second time mom? I feel like the first time around I didn't know to ask these questions. In fact, I didn't know much of anything at all. I think I still don't know too much!

  • I'm high and dry here too. I do get these little creamy plugs at the tips of my nipples in the ducts. What I remember about dairy animals is that this is the first sign of colostrum, you don't want to pick at it or wash it away intentionally in the shower. It is harmless and can keep you from leaking.
