Re-usable nursing pads

I'm looking to purchase some washable nursing pads, as I've already gone through 2 boxes of the disposable ones and for that price I could've just purchased some washable ones.  Also, I use Lansinoh multiple times a day, will this affect the absorbancy of the washable nursing pads?  I know it will probably stain them, but I'm not really worried about that since I'm the only one who will ever see them.  Please recommend yours.

Re: Re-usable nursing pads

  • My advice is not time-tested, but with how much I am leaking right now, the disposables are so much better. I have a set of Bamboobies, which I love because they are slim and soft, a generic wool set from a cloth diaper store and some from BRU. The BRU ones are junk and bulky, but fine for around the house I guess. The Bamboobies are by far the most comfortable and you can't see them through your shir, but they're thin and will probably be better when I'm leaking less. The wool ones are my favorite. They are a little thicker but not as obnoxious under clothing but they absorb pretty well.

I don't know about the lanolin, but I use a natural nipple butter that doesn't bother them.

  • I use the organic BRU ones.  A pack of 3 pair is $9.99. They are my favorite because they are so soft and don't get all mangled in the washer and dryer.  They are kind of think, but I think if they weren't you might leak through them (I have never leaked through these, but did with other ones last time). I use the same lanolin and have never noticed staining.

  • I use kissaluvs for the day and Babykicks Jersey-Hemp at night. The Baby kicks are super thick and absorbent. I use lanolin and it hasn't seemed to affect the absorbency.

  • Just be careful about using fabric nursing pads too early.  My LC prefers the disposables until your supply regulates and you stop leaking so much.  Re-usables tend hold too much moisture in when you are leaking and it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria which would cause a multitude of issues.

For the re-usables I have the Medela ones which are ok, but I prefer my Motherhood maternity ones.  They are made of a soft fleecy material that is really nice.  I know the board really likes the Bamboobies.

Also, I just started using my Lily Padz with coming back and work and I prefer them a TON to the fabric pads.  They aren't as bulky, I find that I leak less and I only need the one set since I wash them in the sink at night and put them on again the next morning.

  • I use LilyPadz, they are silicone, so you hand wash them in soap and water. They are supposed to keep you from leaking at all and they stay in place. I got them on sale at Babies R Us recently. Def worth a try.
  • I only use washable because I have a huge oversupply. I use Nuk.
