SO baths....

P has loved taking baths since he was a newborn. In the past week or so, any time we put him in the tub he starts crying and whining the entire time! What's up with that? Any other LO's suddenly hate the bath?

Re: SO baths....

  • If you are up for a mess, bath crayons have been the biggest hit!! He loves them and often tries to go in the bathroom just to color on the tub.

He gets them all over while he is in the tub, but they wipe down really easily.

  • Does your LO have any rashiness on his bottom? DS also loves baths, but if he has even the slightest bit of a diaper rash he wines and cries in the bath too.

This is what I was going to suggest.  DS screams if he has a rash and we put him in the tub.

I've been debating about getting these for T.  The few times we've tried to draw she just wants to chew on the crayons or slam them onto the table.  I thought maybe introducing them in the tub would help her learn to use them (and help contain the mess...).  Did you just get regular ole' Crayola bath crayons?

We received the Crayola ones last Easter.  I was going to let C use them, but in reading the packaging I read that they weren't supposed to be used for kids under the age of 3, and it could cause UTI!  I'm personally holding off, although it doesn't seem like he has sensitive skin and I'm pro'lly just being paranoid.

Yes and Andrew was the same way. He never colored, he just ate them. He still does try sometimes with the bath ones but he has definitely figured out the acting of coloring with them!

My mom got these for LBB, but DH won't let him use them because he keeps trying to eat them.  Even though he doesn't eat markers or the dot-paint-pens.

DD went through a phase where she suddenly hated the bath when she was slightly older that this.  She always loved it and then suddenly, she would scream like a banshee at bath time.  She seemed like she was really afraid of it.  We tried changing the water temp, adding new toys, checking her bottom for rash/irritation and had no luck.

We started only giving her a bath when she really needed it, kept them really short, and did sponge baths when possible for a few weeks.  We started reintroducing baths by having me hold her in the tub for bath time.  It took a few weeks of this before she would take a bath be herself again, but we have not had any problems since then.

I still don't know what triggered this, but when I was reading up on it, it seemed like it was a pretty common phase.

All of this sounds like our situation.  DH got in the tub with P for his bath tonight and it didn't help.  This was one of the worst nights yet.  He starts bugging out when we bring him in the bathroom!  It looks like we may be doing a lot of the same things your did with your DD.  Thanks, ladies.
