Ear Infection Question

DS had his 6 month wellness on Monday. Everything went well except he had a double ear infection. I kind of suspected since he was acting fussy all weekend and his sleep had deteriorated. We were given antiobiotiics that we started Monday night. He slept ok Tuesday night but that has been about it. My question is if you LO has had an ear infection how long has it taken for them to start feeling better and sleeping better? I am wondering if I should call the doctor and let him know that he is not sleeping. Typically DS gets up 2xs a night to nurse and sleeps really well. Advice or experience? TIA!

Re: Ear Infection Question

  • The doctor isn't going to be able to do anything about LO not sleeping. It usually takes DS about a week of feeling well to get back into his regular sleep routine.

  • Thanks! I just thought maybe he would be feeling a little better by now. Hopefully in the next few days he will get to acting more himself.

  • Did you give infant tylenol or motrin? It can do wonders, but it does take a few days for the medicine to kick in enough to make their ears not hurt. If it's a double ear infection, his ears probably hurt quite a bit.

  • DS had an ear infection every month of his first two winters.  We were lucky that they didn't really affect his behavior.  I agree with PP, trying giving him some tylenol to reduce the pain.

  • Thanks again. We will try some tylenol tonight and hope that helps!

  • We have double ear infection number two right now and for the first 3 nights we gave tylonel before bed and by night 4 she is usually ok and doesn't need the medicine.

  • I don't have any advice or answer to your question but wanted to find out from you how your DS eating has been with the ear infection? Is he eating more or less?

He has been eatling a little less this week. He usually takes 3 bottles at day care but on Tuesday and Wednesday only took 2. He was also very fussy Tuesday night and I couldn't get him to nurse until he was very tired. He also had his 6 month shots on Monday so I don't know if that had contributed to his eatling a little less. He wasn't eatling significantly less though and yesterday seemed to be back to normal with how much he eats.
