I know we've been through this before, but im confused by the toddler clothing sizes.
Our local department store had an awesome clearance sale on toddler clothes and I picked up a bunch of stuff for next winter. My DD is in 18 mos right now, her tops fit great and she can even fit in some 12 mos tops, but her legs seem long and she grows out of pants first. I put her in 2t pjs last night and they were huge and super long. Guess she won't be moving to a 2t for a while. So what size for next winter? I was assuming 3t and I bought a few 4t pants, now I'm wondering if I should take the 4t pants back and get more 3t pants. What do you think? What sizes are you buying for next year?

Re: Size for next winter?
If 2T pants is still big I would buy a mix of 2T and 3T. Still if you don't mind storing stuff keep the 4T you bought, she may not wear it next winter but it will eventually fit durning a winter I am guessing.
Abel already wears 2T pants so I will be buying 3T pants and mostly 3T shirts as he already has 2T long sleeve shirts that should get him though some of the winter.
Liam will be 4 in a few weeks. He is tall for his age andwhistle wears 5. When he was 2 he wore a 3t. 4t pants are really really long, even if she is at the top of the charts, she probably won't wear a 4 until she is 3 or 3 and a half.
Thanks for asking this question
I was looking at buying ahead because there are/will be some great sales in the next two months, as winter clothes make way for spring. I am SO BAD at this size thing still!
I was figuring I'll get DD some stuff in 2T, because it seems bigger than 24 months. I'm leaning towards buying lots of pants because they can be worn earlier (end of summer nights and early fall, all thru winter) and a few lighter weight long sleeved tops. Then hopefully, if she grows again, she will get more clothes in the "right" size at Christmas time, if needed.
The 18-24 months I have been buying are ON whereas the 24 months I have picked up are Okie Dokie (JCP brand) and there is a pretty significant difference between the two. I am sure it is just a brand thing but don't worry, I checked.
I think I will aim for 3T. It might be too big for her at the beginning of the winter, but it will definitely fit her at some point before the cold season is over. I just had a look at pictures from last year, and DD1 was in fact in size 3T clothes at this time of the year (she was a couple months younger than DD2 will be, but she is also a little bigger, so I think it's safe to assume DD2 will be about the same size as her sister was at the same time of the year)
As for snow suits, I have a 3T and a 3X, so o I thin kI'm set there.
She is in all 2T shirts now, and besides the sleeve length, they are on the verge of snug.
Pants are all 2T, because of her puffy butt, and are just now fitting in the length. I bet she will outgrow the waist by summer.
So we have been buying all 3T summer clothes, and 4T winter clothes when I see cute ones on sale.
Coming back to say I would definitely return the 4T stuff.
DD1 is huge (like 97+ percentile) and her current wardrobe is 85% 4T (the rest is 5T that are still a little big on her)
I agree. Liam's in the 97 percentile. He only wears a 5 now, at almost 4 years old. 4t's are huge.
Wow, mobile sucks. The clearanced clothes were 1 to 3 dollars a piece. I went back and got 2ts and clothes for the baby next year. Had a 20 percent off coupon today too! Great feeling!
DD is such a tiny little peanut that I wonder if even 24 month clothes will fit by next winter. As of now she wears 9-12 months in most of her clothes with a tiny number of 12-18 month shirts that only completely engulf her a little.
For Christmas DH's grandparents sent 24 month clothing that's super cute but waaaaay too big. I'm sure they're just taking her age and then buying the next size up to be on the safe side, but they must not realize how tiny she is.
When the winter stuff starts going on super clearance in the next couple months I will likely buy 2T clothing and hope it works.
