Ouch! Annual Daycare Statement

DD's daycare just sent out dependent care reports for our taxes. I knew it was high and, yes, it is simple addition, but I didn't want to think about how much I was really spending a year on daycare.

I scrolled down and read $15,440 for 2012. Geez Louise. It stings to see that much money out the door for the year.

Oh well, still cheaper than being a SAHM, for us.

Re: Ouch! Annual Daycare Statement

  • We spent about 6000 this year. Next year, it will be ridiculous for 2 though.

  • I know the feeling. We are in a cheaper cost of living area but out daycare expenses will be about $9500 for the year.

When DS started daycare it was $775 per month. January 2012 it went up to $795 per mo. When he turned 1 yo we got a lower rate to $755 per mo. Now that it is the new year the rate has been increased and we are back to $775/mo again. I told DH that we are just back to where we started. It is insane how much it costs!

I wish it was subsidized like it is in some European countries. I can't imagine paying for multiple kids in daycare and have no idea how families manage that.

I figured out the other day that daycare is 25% of our net income.  So... if we had 2 it would negate my paycheck.

Seriously. The cost of daycare is a big factor in us being one and done. We would have to wait until DD was in kindergarten to be able to afford it and by then, I'd be older than I would like to be to get pregnant again.

same here...2 would make it less then worthwhile to continue working.

I hear you on that one. If we waited until DS was in kindergarten then I would be at least 44 yo.

  • We spent just over $15,000 for daycare last year.  Of that $5,000 was untaxed income we put into our dependent care account.  Helpful, but still insane.

This year it will cost $14,600 for Brooke and then $5,000 for baby 2.  2014 is going to be a doozy when they are both full time.

  • If I would work, daycare would be exactly 50 bucks less per months that I'd be making. So....I stay at home.

  • That is why I don't work full time, and I work around MH schedule.  It is exhausting because you are always on duty.
