I am trying to decide what activity I want to enroll Skyler in this spring and am considering a gymnastics class. One of the local fitness clubs have gymnastics classes starting from walking - Age 3. I thought this may be a great idea for Skyler since she loves when we flip and roll her over.
My other options are gym rompers (gymboree type class) and swimming. I may still do swimming along with gym rompers or gymnastics though.
Thoughts?
Re: Gymnastics?
I'm trying to convince DH we should sign L up for dance. At this age, I think it would probably be similar to any gymnastics class, and I think the ones I found were cheaper. I always wanted to be in dance as a little girl, too, so I'd like to give that to her.
Swimming sounds good, too, but for some reason, I was going to wait a little longer on that.
I enjoyed Little Gym more than actual gymnstics gyms - the real gymnastics places here allow more kids, so they spend a lot of time waiting in line, and the teachers are sometimes pretty young and don't seem used to babies. So I would vote for the rompers class.
I did swim lessons with my oldest, and honestly, at that age, it was a beating. She was not a water baby (as long as water was not in her face and she was not under she was fine, so our previous pool experiences did not translate), I had to be in the pool with her, it was cold outside and I never felt warm enough after....I think summer swim would be fine though if DD likes it.
I was thinking of dance. In fact I was just looking up the local dance schools to see what age they start taking them. I took dance for one season as a kid and really wish I had started at a younger age and kept with it.
2Chatter - She loves the water. But I am a bit concerned that she won't like going under. It will be warm here next month so I don't have the weather thing to worry about.
Thanks for the input ladies, keep it coming!
I was in gymnastics from walking to age 18. It clearly stuck with me and I have nothing negative to say about my experience. It taught me a ton of life lessons and to learn how to budget my time between school, work, and gymnastics practice. My Mom put me in just as something fun to do and burn off some energy. I loved it so much I just kept going.
If we had a walking-3 gymnastics class, I would put Landon in, in an instant.
I am looking into swimming for him this spring and he is already in music!
DD is going to gymnastics tomorrow. (Its on open free play thing)
I was a gymnastics coach for a few years. I mostly taught toddler classes, aged from around 18M to 4-5 years. I highly recommend it for boys and girls even if you don't intend to keep them in gymnastics. It's a lot of fun and at that age, mostly just structured play.
Where I worked, they don't start until around 15 months. Until around 2.5, its a parent participation class. It's mostly just organized play with climbing, jumping, rolling, hanging from bars. In the beginning, you'll be helping LO a lot. Most kids have a lot of fun. I actually can't remember any kids that didn't like it.
