Pregnant after 35

Intro

Hi Ladies,

I am super excited to be back here. DS is a little over one and I just got my BFP this morning for #2. I will be 38 when I deliver and I have found that parenting at my age is extremely rewarding and I think I can appreciate it in a way that I probably couldn't have in my 20s.

  • Welcome and congrats!  I totally hear you on the older mom appreciation thing, and I can actually compare - I had my daughter when I was 21, she's 18 now and I'll be just a couple weeks shy of 40 when this one is duw.  With DD, I was juggling a minimum wage job, school/finishing my degree, new marriage, and such and although I enjoyed her, I know I was terribly busy and stressed and really just wasn't in as great a place then as I am now.  Now I have a fantastic job, a house, financial stability, and a bit more maturity to really appreciate everything about this pregnancy and what's to come.  :)

  • Welcome!  I am 38 too.  I would have gladly taken a baby at 25 but that did not work out as planned.  Now that I am "older" I think that I will be a better parent.  I am now established in my career so I have more time to spend with LO than if I was just starting out.  I also think that I will appreciate this baby more since it was such a struggle to get her.  Now I am just worried that she will end up being spoiled.

  • Velvet, welcome and congrats! I agree that being an older parent is full of special joys that younger moms may not appreciate as much. I will be 42 when I deliver and I am genuinely thrilled and excited to have a child at last. My DH is also well established at his office and is hoping to work out a deal to work from home 3 days a week for the first 6 months. He would not have had the leverage for such a deal 8-10 years ago.

Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
  • Hi there!  I am having my second (will be 39 when he is born) and DH and I just never really felt "ready" to have kids in our 20s or early 30s.  Heck, we still didn't feel ready when we started trying just before I turned 36.  I totally think he and I are much more suited to be parents at this age than we would have been 10 or 15 years ago.
