Parenting after a Loss

Teeth already??

DS slept terribly last night, woke up every 2 hrs and wasn't happy with just a paci... that hasn't happened in a while without some kind of reason.  Then today he seemed slightly extra drooly and was chewing his hands constantly... I seriously doubted I'd find anything but decided to check out his gums.... on the bottom where a front tooth would be he has a tiny white nub that's hard if you rub it... that's a tooth right?? I can't believe it, he seems much too young.

  • Sounds like a tooth!  It can happen as early as 3 months!  Not often, but it's not unheard of :)

ETA:  FWIW when DS's first tooth broke through it was sharp and gritty feeling.. he has a silver rattle and I could hear it tapping when he's chew on the rattle!

  • Sounds like a tooth to me! DS has been drooling and biting/sucking on his hands for a few weeks now.  He's had two little white "somethings" just below his gums for a little bit now and at his 4m check up the pediatrician confirmed that they are teeth.  My DH was a very early teether, according to my MIL, so I think that's where he gets it from!

  • Could also be "pre-teething" when the teeth move uncomfortably around under the gums.  DD had this around months 2-3 and didn't pop her first tooth until she was just under 6 months old.

  • My DS is doing the same thing - chomping on his fist and drooling like mad.  I feel something hard on his gums - get ready!  Teeth!  =)

This. But my LO is also an incredibly slow teether...from the appearance of the hard bumps to actual teeth it took well over 2 months for the first one and each one since has taken 4-6 weeks to pop through.

  • We've been experiencing the same thing with DD. A couple of hard white molar bumps appeared at two months old! I was skepitcal about teeth that early, especially molars, but then she started to show other signs like drooling and chewing on her hands.

As of late, I can also feel, but not see, hard bumps on her front upper gums. None of the teeth have popped through yet, and we're going on four weeks, but I'm expecting them soon.

We're actually at the dentist right now, and DH is going to have the Doc take a look. We'll find out for sure soon!
