Has anyone used baby orajel? Jayson has got to be teething. He randomly has screaming fits now, and if I give him a cold, wet, rag to chew on, he's fine until It's not cold anymore.

I though orajel was only for older kids. Even the orajel baby or whatever its called. I swear there was a post maybe last year that said it wasn't good to use in babies. And the nurses hotline once mentioned to me its for kids 2 years and older, which makes no sense to me since most kids have all their teeth by then.
Anyhow, it can numb their throats too which is not so great.
I asked our pedi about it at our 4 month appt and she said she didn't recommend it because it can numb their throat muscles as well and impair their gag reflux. She just to give her tylenol if she is having a lot of descomfort from teething.
Orajel contains benzocaine, which, like the PP stated, is not good for babies. Also, it burns when you apply it (yes, I tried it!). There is a "naturals" orajel product that uses clove oil as the numbing agent, so that is safer for babies. My guess is that most babies will still scream when it's applied though because it causes a weird sensation as it numbs and clove oil just plain tastes nasty (unless, of course, you like black licorice!).
We've used Hyland's teething tablets for both boys, and they help with teething pain decently well. Tylenol is good too if it gets to the point where he won't sleep or something. Honestly, I think just letting them gnaw on something cold is the best thing because it provides relief and helps cut the tooth--cold washcloth (even frozen!), a peeled carrot, teething rings, etc. Good luck!!
