DS2 goes to bed like a dream. I nurse him until he is full, and occasionally he falls asleep at the breast. I put him down awake, and he rolls over and falls asleep, usually without a sound. Three hours later, he wakes up crying/screaming, and WILL NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP. He just cries and cries unless I hold him and put is head against my shoulder. He will not nurse. He screams if I try to give him teething gel. He screams if I put him down. All this for two or three hours. I start a new job this week with a super earlier wake up time, and I can not handle that little of sleep! Please tell me this is just a wakeful and he will not do this for long!

Re: Please tell me this is a phase
We had that two weeks ago for about a week...we thought for sure it was teething, but no teeth have come. Now we think he had a sore throat. Does he have any other symptoms of a cold?
Honestly, after trying everything, most nights all that worked was infant tylenol. But, it worked.

Our fall back is ibuprofen as well. We had about a week or two of this as well. As guilty as I felt, we put her in the swing to sleep. It's the only thing that would get her to fall back asleep in the MOTN.
Just wanted to let you know you are also not alone! Ours comes and goes when he acts like this. It could be teeth, separation anxiety at this age or maybe the 9 month sleep regression is a little early?
This too shall pass! I hope your job goes well!
sounds like you may have a milk/nursing coma on your hands.
sometimes baby seems awake, but is all drunk on mommy milk, zombie like.
probably waking up a little scared because last he knew, you were RIGHT THERE!
i'm right there with you, losing sleep.
My DD started waking up 2 hrs after putting her to bed. She'd scream and not put herself back to sleep. I had to go in and rock her until she was completely zonked. Three to four days later she developed a high fever and we found out she had an ear infection. Two days on an antibiotic and she was back to normal. DD had the flu two weeks prior so I had a feeling that something was wrong, but she didn't seem sick until the fever.
