birthday party

I am somewhat (ok completely...)obsessed with pinterest lately and I need to step away! Help me. Seriously. I am developing some real feelings of inadequacy in regards to my daughter's first birthday party.

You only get one 'first birthday'. And yes, I realize she will NOT remember it. At all. Got it. However, I want it to be special...

So far I made a banner with a pic of her each month, plan on putting out her photo book for the year, and we made a trivia sheet for guests to complete (we will have a prize of some sort...). We are planning on serving ravioli (her fav), garlic bread, salad, and fruit salad, plus cake and ice cream. The cake is a chocolate cherry cake my hubby grew up with and I am frosting it pink with brown and white polka dots. DD will have a cupcake to smash up and eat.

Am I missing something? Is there something I can add to make it more special? Or do I just need to step away from pinterst?? (And really, I do know that I am over thinking this...)

Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I'm taking my fav pic of my little guy in a frame and adding matting that guests can sign or leave a special message.  I also did the 12 months photo timeline. I made a bunting banner thing for his high chair and a shirt for him to wear during his cake smash. I think I've been spending too much time on pinterest, too!! Maybe it's a January 10th baby thing ;)

A quiz sounds fun!!! What kind of questions did you ask??

    Sounds wonderful to me!

Repeat after me: Pinterest is a conspiracy to make perfectly normal women into crazy, party-obsessed fiends. Those women and those parties (and those ridiculously amazing DIY photos) are a mirage!

I bought DD a balloon, cupcakes and lots of party food from the grocery. Then I let friends and relatives destroy my house. I think she survived the lack of DD-themed decor. Your party sounds lovely. Step away from Pinterest.

    :steps away:...  ;)

  • The problem is I log onto pinterest at 3am when the baby wakes fussing because I need something to keep me awake as I try to get him back down. Ugh. And at 3am everything looks so fun and easy to make...I think I need to delete the app of my phone!

  • Doing a party at my house Saturday. Having it catered because we know a lot of people, and its easier to cook. Bought a wooden block set and each guest will decorate/leave a message on the block foe her to play with forever! Super cute idea and gives guests something to do!

    Please, step away from pintrest.

My daughter's birthday is Friday.  "Party" is saturday.  It will consist of supper with the grandparents and then cake with the 2 siblings of mine and a cousin of my husband who live in the area.  I have zero decorations and will maybe get some balloons for that night.  Cake will be made on Saturday during naptime.  Small is fine!

I had to throw a last second party for James on his birthday, mil gave us less than 2 weeks notice of her arrival. Anyway other than the cake drama we did the paper rolls in two colors, a happy birthday banner, balloons, and decorated the high chair. It was all family anyway. Don't stress about it, James looked at the decorations in amazement.

Can I just say....I LOVE your siggy...Big Smile

Thats an AWESOME idea! Where did you get the wooden blocks?

  • Don't feel like you need to do everything.

Since the party wasn't at my house, I made more things for her to wear than to decorate.

I had a tutu for her, a long sleeved onsie that I put a "1" on, and a felt crown.  But this took about 2 weeks to make everything at night.

Just remember, you're going to want her down to her diaper for the cake.  Otherwise you'll be pealing clothes off her when she's done.  We just put her in the highchair in her diaper and crown for the cake.  It made some really cute pictures.
