Trouble TTC

One more round of Clomid? *Update*

If you look at my siggy, you can see that I have not responded to Clomid at all, why on earth would I think about doing one more round of it? Should I bother? I would be upped to 150mg if I went for it. Our next step is supposed to be Femara w/Ovidrel and I feel like I should try one more cycle with Clomid first. So, I guess my question is, has anyone had no follies on the first round or two and then responded on maybe round 3 or 4? If I go for it, this will be my last try with it. Thanks ladies! Hopefully that all made sense...I was sent home from work today due to a 101 fever, so hopefully this doesn't sound too cray cray!

**Update**

Got a call back from my RE and he wants me to try one more round of Clomid with a trigger if I respond this time. This will be my third round, first time being on 150mg, but will also be my last round (unless I actually respond to it) and we will move onto Femara (hopefully I get matched with someone in the oop meds group, if not, Freedom will be my next choice). Thanks for the advice ladies!

Re: One more round of Clomid? *Update*

  • I agree that if it is unsuccessful with three attempts move on to something different. I did 50mg, 50mg, and 100mg and did not respond so we moved on to a lower dose of Clomid with injectables. Good luck to you!

  • Sorry, I was just poking around- I'm currently about 30 weeks with my baby- and he's from a third round of clomid!

Just a note- make sure you are also taking your BBT- the first two rounds of clomid, I just did the blood test for ovulation on the date the doctor told me to test on and I was told I was not responding to Clomid.  After the third round, I again was told I did not respond- I argued my way back in to test 5 days later and low and behold, I had responded to the Clomid after all and I'm now due in March :)  Be your own advocate!

  • I would go ahead and switch to Femara. After 5 failed cycles it's time to move on to something else. Some people never have a good response to Clomid, so I don't think one more cycle would change that all that much for you.

  • I'm sorry, I have no idea what a "siggy warning" is.

I just wanted to give positive feedback to someone who sounds like they are in the same boat I was- debating a third round of clomid at 150 mg after two failed rounds (50 and 100).  I am not a doctor, but wanted to share my experience.  I was on this board when I started TTC- all seeking advise from "random strangers on the street."

Yes, clomid raises BBT while you are taking it, and ususally few days after- however, at least my doctor, and a vast amount of research available, will tell you that usually temperature drops back down before ovulation.  While this may not be true for all, it was true for me and others.

Lesson learned- I will stay off of this board in the future- but wanted to give the OP the encouragement someone gave me on the fertility friend website.

How's your lining been?  At 150mg, you're at an increased risk for a thin lining, so if you had any previous lining issues, I'd definitely look at moving to the Femara.  My doc wants me to move to it next cycle (if there is a next cycle) because my lining was at 5.48 at 100mg of Clomid.  Femara doesn't have the lining or CM issues that Clomid can cause.

My lining was good on 50mg, I can't remember the number, but on 100mg it was about a 7, I can't remember the exact number. I called my RE office today and hopefully he will get back to me in the next day or so since I'm due for AF any day now.

My insurance didn't cover Clomid at all (which was fine since it was cheaper). Femara is more expensive but since it's technically a breast cancer drug, insurance covered it. So I ended up paying less for Femara than Clomid. The instruction paper said it was something like 209 dollars but I just paid my 4 dollar co-pay.
