VBAC

Successful VBAC 9lbs.10oz baby

Hello ladies, this is my first post, I used to lurk on this board when I was planning to go for VBAC. I decided to post this to hopefully help someone struggling with the fear of VBAC. I had so many concerns before I went into labor about whether or not it was worth it to try for VBAC, I am here to tell you that it ABSOLUTELY is worth it. I had all the odds stacked against me when I went into labor this time ( water breaking as first sign of labor, large baby who was also posterior) after about 10 hours of labor (I had an epi, with my first I went med-free until my CS) my OB came in and said, "I think you should start considering the CS. She is posterior and really big" I started to cry and my nurse (my WONDERFUL nurse) said to me, "lets keep pushing until they drag you out of here!" She had me turn on my side to push and after 5 big pushes she turned and started to descend. 20 minutes after my OB had come in to say that I needed a CS she was called back in because my baby was coming out! My girl was born at 9lbs 10 oz, I had a second degree tear and my recovery has been so much better than it was after my CS. After she was born, I nursed her, then I was able to eat breakfast and walk around! It was amazing! I only took pain meds for 2 days and didn't need them after that. I was so lucky to have an amazing nurse who worked so hard with me to have a successful VBAC, I never could have done it without her, I can't imagine what would have happened had I not had such a hard working nurse. I was so disappointed with my OB's lack of support. Anyway, this long post needs to end...my main point is to not get discouraged if your baby is predicted to be big or the circumstances are not ideal, don't give up! good luck ladies!!

  • Awesome story.  Having an advocate is such a wonderful thing!  I think my first birth would have been a totally different story if I had a nurse like that.

    Congrats!

  • Thank you. I'm not pregnant or ttc yet. Dd is 9.5 months and I had such a rough go with the csection I'm so freaked out to do it again. One day I think I'll just do rcs. The. The next I want vbac. There's so many complications with both I just don't know what to do. My dr said I should have no problems with a vbac. But still. This story is very encouraging. Thank you

  • Thank you for your post. I lurk here often for signs that my hopes of a VBAC are a possibility. Your story (and the size of your baby:) give me more hope. Congrats and thanks again.
  • This is just the story I needed today. DD was big 9lbs9oz and I always fear that Baby 2 will be just as big and I won't get my VBAC. So happy you got yours!!

  • Thank you for sharing your story. I am 24 weeks pregnant with number 3. My first delivery was nautral and drug free. My second delivery ended up being an emergancy c-section. So now my plan is to have a VBAC. Since it's been 9 years since my second delivery they said I'm a good canidate for a vbac. At my last Dr. visit they said I'm measureing big and immediatly brought up the c-section card. I was very discouraged but now after reading your post I'm encouraged that I can have a successful vbac. Thank you!
  • Thank you for your post. I am 39 weeks and measuring 46cm. My last sono at 38 weeks estimated weight at 8lbs 9ozand my midwife is starting to get a little nervous about continuing with VBAC. If I hear the phrase "untried pelvis" one more time I am going to lose it! Your post helps reassure me that it's worth the fight. Hoping I get a nurse like yours!
