Babies: 6 - 9 Months

labial adhesion

So, went to the doctor today for a check up and found out that our little lass has a complete labial adhesion. Basically, the inner labia sort of grow shut over the vaginal opening. Got a prescription for estrogen cream to get things back to normal.

Was wondering if anyone else's little girls have had this, and is there any way to try to help prevent it from reoccurring?  I do keep her dry and change her diapers often, bathe her regularly and I pretty much leave her bits alone.

 Thanks!

Re: labial adhesion

  • DD was diagnosed at 6mo.  We've done the estrogen cream a couple of times.  It helps to use Aquaphor once a day during diaper changes, but it has started to re-adhere.

  • My friend's infant daughter had this problem and the doctor attributed the adhesion to desitin use.  If you were using a product like that, I recommend asking your doc if you should discontinue doing so.

  • The pedi discovered my DD had one at her 3 month. It took two rounds of the estrogen cream to get it to open up. It hasn't closed again. We put A&D on it twice a day. I put it on once in the morning and once before bed.

I've used Sudocrem on her before, but the nurse at the hospital really sort of scared me with putting it on her labia  or anywhere near her urethra or vaginal opening (it wasn't the nurses fault, really, I was seriously exhausted and overwhelmed in the first place). I will ask the doctor on follow ups if the Sudocrem was a possible culprit.

Thanks for the responses, ladies. I appreciate them.
