Kindergarten

I did it. I just signed Cali up for the fall. I have been so excited these past few months for her to go this coming year, but when it came down to it, I bawled like a baby! Crying Im not ready now. What if she's not ready? What if the kids are mean to her? What if she doesn't make any friends? AHHHHH. I can't do this.

However, I am excited because she has the opportunithy to go to a French Immersion school. It's a part of our public school district and 3 blocks from our house.  What did you do to prepare yourself for the big plunge? Anyone else sending their 'babies' off into the big world this year?

Re: Kindergarten

  • My oldest started this past fall and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. He was so ready and he LOVES school. I go volunteer in the class room once a week or so and it's heartwarming to see the kids at this age. Honestly they are all quite sweet and SO into learning.

I cried the first bus pick up but I see how happy my son is at school so I got over it pretty quickly! Next year will be rough though, full day! Ahhhh

  • So exciting!!! I know when the time comes for me I'll be a big mess too.Congrats on signing up your "baby"!

Because of Caitin's late birthday-mid December-she can't start kinder this coming fall but I am going to try to see if I can sign her up for the preppy/transitional kinder that our elementary school offers. She's in her second year of preschool right now and I'd rather not have her in a third year of it...and pay another year's worth of tuition!

I think it's so neat that kids still do bus pick up and drop off. I think the only times kids ride in buses here are for field trips and if they are in Special Ed going from school site to other school sites.

  • My Logan is doing Kindergarten this year as well.. and he LOVES it! I had no problem sending him, but for me it was MUCH harder to send Gunnar to preschool this past fall.. There was something about the "baby" going to school that made it soooo hard for me.. My kids love school though, and until this year we were all in the same building, so that could be affecting my opinion ;)

  • Even though I worry she is not ready, I know she is. She has been in childcare/preschool since she was 1. When I had Camille, I decided to SAH and watch another baby, and she is home with me. She is totally bored. Our K is actually all day-every day. I'm not too worried about that either. They actually might be moving the K-2 to a different building, they vote next week, and if so, she will be taking the bus to school. It's just such a big step. If you ask me tomorrow I'll be ready for her to go and Sept. can't come soon enough ;)

I was a Pre-K teacher for 3 years. I would definitely see if they have a Pre-K program in the school district. If the program that your DD is in now is anything like my room was, she is going to be bored as all get out for a 3rd year. That's tough with the those birthdays.

  • My daughter started this past fall and lives it! The specials and reading are her favorite.

  • I am dreading this day for DD as well.  I think we have sign-ups later this month, and I am basically a basket-case every time I think about it [;'(]

DD's loved being in pre-K so far this year, and most of the kids will be in her same elementary school next Fall.  Since she already goes 4 days a week from 9a-2p, I'm hoping I'll be prepared emotionally for her first day when it arrives...  Other than that, I have some comfort that her school is right next door to her pre-school so it's right down the street from our house.

(((HUGS))) ladies, we will get through this together <3

  • We have full day kindergarten here and on DD's first day last year I took her and had someone cover my class. I did fine until the teacher handed me a poem and I stupidly tried to read it in the car and cried like a baby. I called DH and was a mess. Thankfully that only lasted one day.
Now she's in first grade and its no big deal but she is not one of these kids who is ready for Monday, she'd rather be home. Lol.

  • My second youngest started preschool this year and he is almost five. It's crazy how fast they grow. Next year in august he starts full day kinder.
My other two are in grades 8 and 2
