I said SS because I have no clue! There's a preschool in the Presbyterian church down the road from us, and I've heard it's very good. Hubster even went there when he was a little guy. Sometime this spring we'll be contacting them and asking their opinion on starting ages.
I picked 3, but in reality I don't know when we'll start. Lucia gets lots of benefits frpm being with me as a baby, and from being socialized with the 2 girls I nanny. I am extremely happy with our choice. But the thing she is missing is regular time without me. We'll want that to start before she is 5. The little one I nanny is 2 and started 2 mornings a week at preschool. She adores it! Plus it's super cute :
I chose preschool at three. We probably will do 2-3 days at three and then everyday at 4. It makes such a big difference for them as far as socialization and reading is concerned.
Hadley goes to daycare, which is also a preschool. The preschool curriculum starts at age 2.5/3, but they even teach and do projects in the infant/toddler rooms too.
So technically, she started "preschool" at 12 weeks old We call her center "school"!

2/13/12 - We proudly welcomed our daughter, Hadley Teresa! Lots of Luck to all of 3T/IF
At 3 DS should transition from day care to a Montessori, fingers crossed (that he gets accepted, that we can afford it, that the schedule works, that there is one close enough to wherever we move....).
My eldest did MDO Prek 5 days. My other DD is in a formal 4 year old program (late birthday) this year at the private school her sister goes to now.
I picked SS becaue Ethan goes to daycare full time, in a center setting. So he will continue to attend full time and will be in the Preschool program there all day, 5 days a week, once he's 3!
We will do preschool at 3yo for 2 to 3 days. It will be good for her to be out doing something and playing with other kids. We will hopefully have another baby by then so it will be a break for me, too!
Funny you posted this. I was just talking to my BFF and she told me that her son's pre-school was going to move him up to the 4-5 year old class now (he makes 4 this month) rather than in September because he is more advanced.
His teacher explained that at 3-4 you really start to see the difference between kids who were in a preschool setting earlier versus later because they begin to learn in a more traditional sense earlier. (He started daycare at 18 months, she SAH before then) She said many of the kids who start at 3 are just beginning to really learn and it takes them longer to get used to sitting still and learning and longer to grasp concepts compared to the ones who had been there a while.
I think even if Skyler wasn't in daycare full time now I would definitely start sending her to a preschool environment for at least a couple days a week by age 2 and at least 3 days by age 3. Also, when researching some preschools here, it was a requirement for your child to be able to sit still for an allotted amount of time to be admitted into the program and I thought that was interesting.
I couldn't imagine throwing my 4 or 5 year old into a preschool setting five days a week after no school setting before then. I know people do and it works for some, but I just know that schools and education are so much more competitive now and I want to give my child the best possible start available.
DD's daycare transitions to preschool starting at 3. It's a lot like daycare at that point, but the day becomes more structures as far as classes and activities. Our daycare offers classes through kindergarten so we could let her go there until 1st grade if we wanted, but I think we'll start her in kindergarten wherever she's going to attend school.

I chose SS for this exact reason. Matthew's day care is the same at pp's

My other two kids were 2 when they started. I think I might wait untill my LO is 3. I want her to be with me as long as possible. Plus the school year she is two I willl already be driving to two different schools.
