So I see this name all the time and I just cant see the appeal. I thought maybe I was pronouncing it wrong but I wasn't. I looked up the meaning and found that it is originally a boys name. I just cant seem to get behind it.. THoughts on Sloane?
I hate it. It looks horrendous and sounds even worse. It also sounds masculine to me, so I especially hate it as a girls name. It gets a lot of love on here though. *shrugs*

I love it - it is in my top two. To try to answer your question on appeal, I think names are kind of like food - some poeople like the taste and others don't! I prefer names that are unique but not made up sounding and don't like top 100 names, so I think that is the appeal to me of this name.
When I was PG with Baby #2, I had a dream that the child was a girl and that her name was Sloane. That name was nowhere near our top name listings by a long shot. I had told DH about it and he thought it was an ok name but it still wasn't on our "lists". After I lost the pregnancy, the name just stuck.
Had the pregnancy been succesful, I probably would have fought for the name Sloane. For some reason, it just fits in my head.

Love. It has been on our list forever. It is not frilly, girly or cutesy. It brings to mind Sloane Peterson and Sloane from Entourage who are beautiful confident women (well, characters). It also sounds sophisticated and classy to me. The fact that it doesn't have wide appeal is also a plus for me. I don't like top 100 names
Now if someone could please explain to me the appeal of Kinsey/Kaylee/Kinley ect........

I'm not a fan, but I did read a book with the main character having that name and I liked the character . To me, it almost sounds like a vulgar word instead of a name.
But there are names I genuinely despise and Sloane is not one of them. I'm a fan of names that are not in the Top 100, so it has that going for it .

I like it. It was in our top 5 along with Brynn, Claire, Paige, and Tess. We like names that are short and sweet. It's still on the table if we have another DD down the road. My only hesitation on the name is that I worry people would think it was masculine. However, a lot of girl names are originally boy names. In fact, Brynn/Bryn is actually originally male.
FYI: perhaps you know, but in the UK "Sloane" is slang for snobby upperclass girls. Here in the US we don't really have an analog, but it might be something like "boardingschool btch."
Not horrible, but all I hear is "Sloane Peterson."
That;s our cat's name
DH pushed to consider Sloane for DD (even with our cat already having that name) but I nixed it due to the cat and that it sounds terrible with our last name.
I do like it and am kinda bummed it so popular now.
I like it on other people's kids. I have a little girl at my daycare named Sloane and she is adorable. The name fits her very well! I wouldn't name my dd it but I don't side eye it.

I agree with this. Sloane is not in my short list unfortunately because it does NOT flow with my last name and DH would never go for it. Sigh, I think it's pretty and different and a totally legit name for either sex actually. And normally I am all or nothing when it comes to gender association. I guess there are just a few names out there that can cross the borders for me.

Same for me! Not a bad association, but I will always think of that character.
