Re: Any LO's who have Croup- come on in?
The cold hair helps... I have a friend who swears by the "Old Wives Tale" of cooking aromatics helping to get things loosened up whenever her kids get it. It's what they had "way back when" in the days before medications... Tylenol can help sometimes in not making the post nasal drip as much of a tickle/gag... The cold air as a PP mentioned is what helped me a lot a few weeks ago when I was in the worst of it (I've been having a reaction to a vaccine I wasn't suppose to get that version of). You might also want to give some allergy meds a shot since I know some are labeled for this age, if anything it might help get them some sleep...
Soap Box Alert
: This is what bugs me about how they took children's cough and cold medicine off the shelf for kids virtually under the age of 6... If the kid isn't getting any sleep and is up busting a gut from coughing so hard they aren't able to recover as quickly. Doctors don't want kids coming in with colds, so why take an effective way for parents to help their kid rest and recover off the table. Maybe a better recommendation would have been for companies to take the tylenol out of cold medicines and have it stand on its own so people wouldn't have messed up with double-doses because they didn't check to label to know that it was one of the active ingredients...
We sat with him in the bathroom with the shower going, used a humidifier at night, saline + a nosfrida snot sucker (this was really great actually but LO hated it), fed him peaches and fruit with vitamin C, and gave him some cough syrup prescribed by the doctor....the things that I think finally turly helped it was time though, and he was pretty miserable until it was over.
