Hi
I just posted on my bmb with similar question.
H is completely on board with wanting to try for a second. I have reservations. DS 1 is 11 months today.
My biggest reservations are all financial.
Just wondering how much of a household budget change did you notice when you had your second?
I didn't notice a difference really having DS because we didn't budget before we had him, and basically spent what we made and were foolish. When we had ds I started getting serious about finances, and now that I have reigned us in and taken control we don't struggle to pay anything, and always just seem to have way more money than we had before. I don't have a very typical or realistic view on how much of a financial burden a new baby is as a result.
Can someone give me perspective?
TIA
Re: Trying for 2u2- need advice
We CD and BF, so there were no diapering or feeding costs associated with him until about 6 months at which time he started to add to the grocery bill by the slightest fraction. I'm talking MAYBE $25 more dollars per month. He only ever ate what we were eating, just pureed in a food processor.
In terms of clothing, the boys were born in different seasons, so there were very small clothing costs -- $75ish for an entire year. Since then, we haven't bought any new clothes. We buy clothing second-hand or take hand-me-downs from close friends.
We re-used all of the gear.
My mom and dad bought us the BJ City Mini Double.
Toys are another expense, but we had enough infant toys from DS1, and honestly, he is totally into whatever his brother is doing. He doesn't want toys, he wants whatever his brother is playing with.
Overall, the second hasn't put a huge damper on our costs. As he starts to eat more, we've had to increase our grocery budget.
I'm trying to get a feel for how much of a financial burden 3 or 4 will be as opposed to 2.
Thanks for the input. I was unable to breasfeed DS#1 due to bad health issues post birth, but i am hoping that next time would be better. I'm trying to keep in mind there is the potential for formula or donor milk expenses.
Other than that you gave me the answer I was kind of expecting. Having them so close seems cheaper in the long run.
Are you a SAHM? Daycare cost is a big consideration for having 2u2.

No I am not, but I have done a "if we have another baby" budget, and daycare is included and covered. It's just the other living expenses that I'm not sure on the effect.
For me 2u2 is costing a lot mainly b/c of daycare ($2300/month). I also spend double on diapers and clothes, b/c I have a girl and boy. But overall yes its less b/c we didn't have to buy any new gear other than double stroller. As long as you can afford the DC increase you should be fine.
